Litter Kwitting - I've made the classic school girl error.....

Just a word of warning to those of you trying to teach your cats how to use the human toilet using the Litter Kwitter.....
So I got the litter kwitter, watched the DVD and heard how you shouldn't rush your cat through the stages. I heard how you should give your cat at least 2 weeks on each of the training rings. And then what do I do?
I convince myself that my cats are far more intelligent than the average cat, that they are fast learners. I give them only 1 week with the litter kwitter on the floor then move it onto the toilet. All is going well, Dudley even seems to aim his waste into the middle...... So after only 1 week I move them onto the amber disc with the hole in the middle. BIG MISTAKE!!! I clean my teeth and step back onto some clothes i had left after my shower the night before....... something soft and cold on my foot. Someone has pooped on my clothes..... I have had a further poop update whilst at work to say that another deposit has been left on the bathroom mat.

Right, part of me feels that if I had been a bit more tidy and there wasn't the option of a pile of clothes/scrumpled up bath mat to poop/pee on, the cats may have considered the litter kwitter with the hole in as the better option. Not sure whether to go back a stage or keep house better and carry on.......

The moral of the story- even intelligent cats need time to learn....and follow the instructions!! And keep your house tidy or your cats may get confused!

Same thing here!! I made the same mistake and moved along too quickly. I've now put the littertray back (will leave it there for a good few weeks) and start from scratch at a later date. All I have to do now is convince Ted to stop pooing in my bed or the bath...

It is the worst mistake isn't it! It seems like cats will never put a foot wrong when it comes to toiletting and then as soon as they've been forced to poo somewhere they wouldn't normally do, it's a free for all! I really hope the pooing in the clothes will not become a regular thing!!!

Luckily most cats have an instinct to bury their deposits, so if you provide litter they will prefer that. You may have to put a litter box near where they have gone on the clothes though for a few days--and not leave piles of clothes on the floor for a couple of weeks. Good luck!

We started our 14 week old kitten on the litter kwitter as soon as he arrived in his new home last March 2010!
We moved too fast in the beginning and went back to the old stage and took it VERY SLOWLY...so slow, that in fact we are still on the green stage for now .We tried the last stage and it didn't work out too well so just went back again to green.
We are just happy that we don't have to use a litter box he gets up on the toilet and does his business with no smells etc......so all is well. Eventually we hope to have him fully trained!
Will try and upload a video to show his progress.

One bit of advise: This will really only work if you are free to keep an eye on kitty as he is being trained . If you work I could see this being very difficult for kitty and you. My husband and I work different shifts so there was always somebody on hand to "send" him to the bathroom

We made exactly the same mistake, I guess we all have the parent's complex, thinking our cats outsmart others...:S Anyway, I use citty kitty instead of LK, which I don't like, I didn't know LK existed. Anyway, I started the first smallest hole, and one of my cat, Sherlock, was trying to patch the hole b/c he's worried "what if my poo fall into it?" They had a few accidents and I had to patch the hole again and wait one more week. I am going to have my husband show both cats "it's okay to pee/poo into the hole" by peeing into the hole...lol And then we will see from there. I know it sounds deperate, but example is better than precept, right? :D

Has anybody had a full success with these? Would be good to hear, as we are thinking of buying a kit, but don't really want to invest if it's useless

Right, today the main litter box got blocked off and we shall see what accidents - or protests - take place before the lads start using the Litter Kwitter (one floor away, in the bathroom).

Missey: I started using the LK over a year ago when Winston was a kitten. We got to the green stage and have not bothered removing this disk. WE tried to make the full transition but he was having none of it. He likes to place his paws on the ledge when he uses the loo and the removal of the green disk prevented this!
He uses the LK all the time accept for when he goes to the cattery. WE are still glad that we don't have to use a litter tray it really is so much cleaner
