Best way to Wean Foods
Hello all so really this question is two part based on both my current cat and soon due kitten.
Ninja my current is on Hills complete biscuits and doesnt like wet food. He was severly underweight when i got him and had a number of ilnesses (i dont think he was fed properly and the house was rancid). Well hes better now and putting on a fair weight. The only thing is ive tried to get him to to applaws and buiscits as well as fresh meat and buiscuits but hes not falling for it. I am lucky to get 1 tablespoon of applaws into him and a couple of sections of fresh chicken. The kitten i am buying is also on Dry complete only so i really want to wean them onto a mixed diet of some complete diet and some Fresh together.
What is the best way to get a dry food animal onto wet and preferably onto a better raw diet? I know they can have a complete dry like hills Science but im sure a mixed diet is better for them.

Have you tried mixing the wet food into their biccie? With cats, you sometimes have to be a bit sneaky and they can take ages to adapt to a new diet.
With regards to the raw, I would try lamb mince as most cats seem to take to that as well as rabbit if you can get it.
You can also try them on a small amount of tuna - if they like it then mix that in with a commercial food too, again just a little at a time.

Hi there, welcome!
I'm a keen raw feeder and I found that the entry-level raw meat was chicken.
Another tip which really worked for me was to pretend that they're not allowed to eat it, and 'accidentally' drop a piece on the floor.
Anyway, for your crew it sounds like you need to get them on wet food first, and then on to raw if you still fancy giving it a try. My lads are thriving on the raw diet although they still have the occasional helping of MC biccies if I've forgotten to defrost the meat. When this happens they go 'Ugh! Is that it? Where's the proper food? Oh OK then, if there's nothing else...'

If you were in the US I would say to get some Fancy Feast, as I have never seen any cat that wouldn't eat it. Apparently it is not available in the UK though. So my advice is to just go buy a very large variety of brands/flavors and try them all--recognizing that you will end up probably throwing out a bunch of food and so money. Cats can be very picky, and we have had almost zero luck getting ours to eat the "high end" canned foods (I am sure we have thrown out well over 100 cans of largely or totally uneaten cans by now). Basically ours will eat Fancy Feast, a few Pro Plan flavors, and Natural Balance Salmon.
There certainly are cats that much prefer dry, though, so you may have trouble getting Ninja to eat much wet no matter what you try. In that case, it is very important to get enough water into him so I would recommend getting a pet fountain if you do not already have one.

When I got Moshi, she was supposedly on Bozita and RC Kitten. The Bozita went straight through her and wasn't pleasant :-/
I've switched her onto Felix As Good As It Looks and Hills Kitten and she loves it. I have the Hills down all day and only give the wet in the morning and evening. The only problem is that I have to put some biscuits in with the wet, just to stop her gobbling it down. If she does gobble it, then she throws it straight back up, which isn't nice and a real waste!
Hope you find a wet one that works :-)
