My boys are eating much less since their snip...
(As I type this watch three little maniacs jumping around chasing a fly, so health and fitness is ok...)
Well, since their snip and dental work a few of weeks ago (8th July to be precise) the boys have all been eating less and less. They were on "Antirobe" antibiotics for 10 days after the dental work to help damp down the gingivitis, every day they shared some white fish with their portions of antibiotics. They were eating OK at this point.
Now, for pretty much all of this week they have been eating much much less. Where they would polish off two tins of food for breakfast or dinner - max three a day between three! - now they have a few mouthfuls and then all wander off. I just put down half a tin for dinner and most is still there. They are also eating much less dry food looking at the feeding containers on the floor.
They had their first tinned tuna earlier this week in an attempt get get them eating, which did go quite quickly. The poo coming out the other end is as copious as ever, or so it seems.
Any ideas folks ? Is it the snip or the antibiotics being over ?
Leo has to go back to the vet on Thursday to have his vestigial teeth pulled, and if it continues I will seek advice them, but that is almost a week away. As I said at the top, they do seem themselves otherwise.
Thanks!

Hi Peter,
What caused the gingivitis? I know Leo is only young after meeting him as a kitten at the SLCA show. I think my girl has a touch of gingivitis and i'm booking her into the vets next week to be checked but i'm surprised to see it in youngsters?

Poor diet. They need to chew to keep the tooth surfaces and the gum line clear of plaque. They had soft food and small kibble dry, which just got swallowed. Vet suggested no more soft food ever but I am going to ignore him - he also suggested giving them real meat and bones to chew once a week and brush their teeth - these two I am doing.

My girls sore gums were picked up at vetting in at the last show we went to,the vet there felt it was down to teething but I'm pretty sure she's not cutting teeth now. I had been feeding them raw (which contains bones) and dry kibbles. They also have whole chicken wings which they obviously have to chew their way through so I'm stuck to what the cause might be until i see the vet. I haven't attempted the cleaning myself yet bet there is not sign of any plaque build up on her teeth and i've been supplementing the water with 'oral care' which is supposed to keep teeth clean and breath fresh. I'm hoping it's gonna be something simple to treat after her visit to the vet..!

The antibiotic can cause loss of appetite so hopefully won't be too long before they are eating you out of house and home again. Link to antibiotic (may be helpful) Clindamycin (Antirobe®) - Page 1

Better than it was, but not back fully. They just left 2/3rds of breakfast and wanders off. But then they were doing this and coming back after a few minutes anyway. Fingers crossed
