How to make my cat gain weight?

I have a maine coon, born i april 2011. He is very thin, and i wonder how to make hin gaine weight? I just got him, so i'm taking him to the vet to get him dewormed but i would like som tips on how to feed him. (He is eating royal canine, maine coon food)

I think the first thing to do is get him a proper check over, see if you can determine why he is so skinny. If all ok, one of the ways to help a cat gain weight is to give them kitten food which is higher in calories.

It is true kitten food is higher in calories than adult food but having moved to adult food I'd be very wary of going back to kitten in case it is too rich and causes digestive problems i.e. diarrhoea. The weight problem could get worse if that happened. It is worth a try but at the first sign of trouble I'd go right back to his usual diet.

How is his appetite? Now he is in a new home it might not be great for a few days I guess. if otherwise his appetite is ok you could try supplements like Nurish Um or Nutri Cal.

What weight is he? He may just be destined to be a skinny belinky but as arthurwhitewhisker says it's worth seeing if you can determine why he is skinny and exclude things like diabetes and thyroid disease.

My little girl is very thin too and nothing piles the pounds on her. She just gets more hyperactive like a gremlin fed after midnight.

Roark is quite lean and doesn't eat too much but he also runs around all day and is a healthy boy, but just a lean one. If you think that a change in diet may help, then I would suggest adding some raw meat into their diet as a supplement to the dry food. Roark barely chews down beef mince and it disappears down his gullet in minutes and he also really enjoys mince mixed with raw egg, fresh raw fish on the bone (sole, hake or salmon) and pieces of raw chicken fillet.

Some MCs are born to be long & lean.

MC Elvis is now in his mid threes and is just now starting to fill out a bit.

I can barely feel his ribs anymore when I pet him, but his backbone is still a bit too prominent for me to like it.

At this rate, I'm guessing he'll be pushing five before he doesn't seem too skinny to me, unless his bones keep growing too.

There's always food out for him (both wet and grain-free kibble), to the detriment of Coco the moggie Calico,
who has grown up to be a butterball, but Elvis eats as much as he likes when he chooses to.

Unlike the other MCs I've been around in the past he's not at all a gobbler. Dainty eater, almost.

A maine coon should be very muscular without any fat at all, they are long, lean, flexible.
