Stupid question about frequent diarrhea
Wondered if anyone had any advice for a potentially stupid question...
Freyja seems to frequently either have diarrhea (when I say frequent I would estimate it's once every couple of weeks, and it's not bad if you get my drift), and when she doesn't have diarrhea she has very soft stools. Aside from the fact that this means that it often sticks to her fur (not looking to cover how to deal with that issue as I know we've shared horror stories already!) I'm anxious in case she feels poorly with it.
In terms of symptoms, she is energetic, playful, affectionate; she's not sensitive and doesn't mind being cuddled and pulled about (unless dry shampoo's involved - back to the horror stories). So she's fine in herself, with or without diarrhea and soft stools.
Her diet is stable - when we brought her home from the breeders we left her on Whiskas Simply Adult as that's what she was used to, but we gradually moved her onto Applaws chicken range and Cat Deli chicken range, along with Go Cat Adult complete kibble. Around the time we moved her onto Applaws/Cat Deli (took a month), the stools started getting softer. She's been on the Applaws for two months and seems to really enjoy it.
The last two days she's had diarrhea, and it's unusual for to have it for two days on the trot, but she did eat a HUGE blue bottle and/ or spider in the garden Sunday. She had a diarrhea tablet yesterday but it didn't help much judging by today, so we held back food this morning and just gave her biscuits this evening, which she tucked into. If she's still got the runs tomorrow morning, she'll be off to the vets.
So, my stupid question is this: should I put her back on Whiskas? We moved to Applaws as it's got a higher meat content so assumed it might be a little more nutritious; Cat Deli is the same principle but enables us to have a few extra flavours to give her more variety, but I'm wondering if it's all just too rich - is it possible that the high-meat diet is the route cause of her digestion issues or could it be more serious? She didn't seem to have the same problem when on the Whiskas when we first got her. I've got no issue with Whiskas but just thought the higher meat content would be a more natural diet for a cat.
It goes without saying that if the diarrhea persists tomorrow I'll take her for a check up, but I just wondered if anyone has had similar issues and how they got round it - I hate the thought that she's uncomfortable and knowing how dignified cats can be it can't make her feel great when she sees me looming with the wet wipes after a having a quiet crap.

Hadn't thought about snacks; yes, she did have a few duck and chicken treats over the weekend - not many but they are relatively new to her. I've obviously with held those too over the last couple of days, and will do so for a few more - good thought.
No change to flavours in the Cat Deli and Applaws range, so I don't think it's that.
You don't get Blue bottles?!? Can I move in with you??
Blue bottles (I'm sure they'll have an unprenouncible latin name) are - in UK terms - bloody great big flies with large metallic blue bottoms. They're loud, annoying and slow, so very easy pray for a feisty MC to catch. Good thought about the spider venom, not sure we've got venomous spiders in the UK though? I hope not, they're my worst phobia as it is!

We've been having similar issues with Schrodinger to the point that every time he's off to the loo we've been checking his tail and legs when he comes out incase he's got dirty pants and feet. It doesn't seem to be diarrhea but just very soggy stools :(
We've changed his diet over the past couple of days from a mainly Bozita (wet) and Feline Finest (dry) both of which have very high meat content to RC Kitten 36 (dry) and a little Porta 21 Chicken Breast in gravy and its looking better, though time will tell.
Other than that he's VERY energetic at the moment, his mad half hour was a good 3 hours the other night and playing pawball with paper balls kept him well entertained until the early morning (cat running on wooden floorboards at speed is rather noisy unfortunately) and he's put on a shed load of weight (from 2.9kg to 3.4kg) though im gonna check that again tonight before feeding him incase it was an anomaly.
Anyhoo, I wonder if its just a kitten thing and that they grow out of it, i do hope so as the thought of chasing pooey paws for the next 2 decades fills me with woe

Blimey - he's the same weight at 4+ months that Freyja was when she just turned 6 months!!
And I'm sooo with you on the pooey paw front. Mind you, the rate Schrodinger's growing he'll start getting to heavy to catch, pick up, flip over and wipe down unless there's two of you! I hope they grow out of it, but I can't help thinking that Freyja didn't seem to have the same problem when she was on Whiskas.
Where do you get your Bozita from?

I know, we were starting to get worried about his weight as he'd hardly put on any since we got him
We get the Bozita from Zooplus though the local petstore owner seems to be able to order anything so I may ask him if he can get it for me so we can get that and the chickfeed delivered to our home. We get the Porta 21 from there aswell and tbh i'd probably eat that myself if i heated it up it looks that good

Stupid question about
Welly has diarrhoea if he catches a bluebottle,I always reckon its because somebody has sprayed the b****y thing somewhere & its got away from them & decides to just pass by my cats for its final flight,crunch,crunch,yum,yum....& as he is the sharpest cat on this block he mostly gets them !
They all tended to get slightly upset tums & a couple of them very upset tums if they were on what I class the "Rich"type of foods for more than a couple of days, hence good old Felix tins, has to be jelly, gravy causes even more problems, sachets still upset them if they have for more than one day & only the few biscuits because once again can cause too many upsets for some of them as well as cause weight problem with one of the boys.
Like everyone else don't want to be cleaning bums & trousers unless its for a genuine upset tum & have found the good old basic works well for mine,no growth problems either.Daughters female cat has had lots of problems with her tum over past few years & we always put it down to food changes,we have now found out it was stress related, not the cat being stressed but daughter. We have one of the biggest breed of cats & you would presume the strongest, but not so,they are very, very sensitive, bless them.

Never really have a problem with runny bums, but I tend to stick to the same food and their daily soft food treat of Chicken with soaked RC biscuits always has probiotics in and all my cats love Natural yoghurt also with probiotics...
I find if I always keep their tummys in good order I don't have problems... this summer with the very high temperatures all the cats caught their fair share of flies... we did not have a problem..

Note to self: politely decline dinner invites to Schrodinger's house...
Applaws and Cat Deli sounds like Porta 21 - a breeder told me that a human could eat Applaws if they wanted to. Although I'd have to have exhausted beans on toast and (possibly) pot noodle before I'd resort to it! Well, maybe I'm exaggerating with the pot noodle.

I can't even think about her eating a blue bottle, or a spider - I'm all or for encouraging a cat's natural instincts but that's just not nice...
I'm leaning heavily towards going back to the original diet, especially after reading this. We're your typical DINKY's (Dual Income, No Kids Yet) couple so we've been able to get Freyja the 'best quality' food that we could find, so the high meat content recipes seemed the right way to go. But perhaps it's just too rich for MC tums (or at least my MC).
