    Innova Evo Canned Cat Food

    Hi

Well, Enzo will be joining me here in the states (as mentioned in my previous posts!!) within the month... so, I really need to pick out a food that will be good for him, which is available here!

Enzo is currently fed on Bozita... which he loves, but it is VERY hard to find in the states and when I did find it... they were trying to charge me $30 for delivery

SO... I was thinking about Innova Evo Canned Cat food.... does anyone feed their cats this?? If so, what do you think? Also, what does it look like?? I can't find any pictures or descriptions that describe what the food is... i.e. pate, chunks in jelly/gravy/etc.

Also, I have never fed Enzo ANY dry food... do cats NEED dry food?

Thanks!!!! I'm so happy that my boy is finally joining me

    For example...
Meat-Based Pet Food – Premium Dog Food, Cat Food, Ferret Food, Dog Treats – EVO Pet Products

I tried it only once more than a year ago and needless to say, my boys refused to go near it! It looks like paste/porridge like and I can't remember it having a distinctive smell (ie fish or chicken). It's also expensive here in Singapore.

Also tried the Innova kibble in purple packaging (I think it's the older version). The kibble crumbles easily as well. Again, my boys refused to go near it! Ended up feeding it to a stray cat who also refused to go near it! Had to mix it with other stronger smelling kibble to use up on the stray cat.

    Good luck

A kennel nearby sells Evo products. We have tried both the dry and canned at several points. Don't remember the canned well, but the dry they always ate heartily for a couple of days and then refused to eat again. Tried two or three flavors and did this several times over a couple of years (they have sample packs). We have tried numerous canned foods, but our cats refuse to eat most "gourmet" brands. They eat Fancy Feast, a few Pro Plan Selects flavors, a couple of Natural Balance flavors, and that is about it. We have gotten extremely sick of throwing out expensive food so only very rarely bother trying new canned foods any more.

Thanks... doesn't sound like Innova Evo is a winner :(

What does the Wellness canned food look like? Not really sure what to buy... Enzo eats so much food, it might cost a small fortune!!! Any recommendations?

I'm not sure if this list has been posted on this forum or not, but some of the Fancy Feast varieties are wheat gluten free and relatively low carb...

Wheat gluten free, low carbohydrate Wet Food

The following are Fancy Feast flavors contain NO wheat gluten and are below 10% carbs:

    * Tender Beef Feast (brown label color)
    * Tender Beef & Liver Feast (magenta)
    * Tender Beef & Chicken Feast (red)
    * Gourmet Chicken Feast (dark pink...be careful, this looks just like another chicken variety with gluten!)
    * Turkey & Giblets Feast (olive green)
    * Tender Liver & Chicken Feast (orange)
    * Chopped Grill Feast (kelly green)
    * Flaked Fish & Shrimp Feast (true blue)
    * Savory Salmon Feast (orange)
    * Flaked Ocean Fish Feast (pink)
    * Tuna and Oceanfish Feast in Aspic (teal label)

MC Elvis & Coco both seem to prefer FF to the more expensive types.

The Wellness is pate style. Bought a couple of cans a few months ago when I bought some Wellness Core dry but nobody liked them. Couple of bucks down the drain (or into the trash). Of course that doesn't mean your guy won't like it.

We buy Fancy Feast at Walmart--that is how we try to reduce cost. By far cheaper than buying anything at Petco or the like. Though with four MCs, there are days we go through 8 cans, at $.50-.75/can, so definitely adds up. But the "gourmet brands" are more like $1 and up (and then we end up throwing much of this out). All the dry comes from Petco, though.

Thanks - your MCs only eat 2 cans each per day?? The 3oz cans? Enzo eats like 13oz a day........... how old are your kitties?

[EDIT] Oops, I forgot... you feed dry too That makes sense! I read the Fancy Feast feeding guidelines and it says to give them one 3oz can per 3 pounds of body weight. So, that would mean that Enzo would currently need 4 cans per day! Eek! Does it work out cheaper to feed wet AND dry? I've never fed Enzo dry food... just not sure how I feel about feeding dry. What is Fancy Feast dry like?

Yes, which is why I don't consider it a "gourmet" cat food. However, you should know that the meat by-products are not being used as the main source of meat in Fancy Feast. I just looked at a bunch of flavors, and meat by-products is the fifth or sixth ingredient. The first three are virtually always some kind of broth and two regular meats. In the flavors that include wheat gluten to thicken their "gravy," meat by-products is always listed AFTER the wheat gluten. In one, it is even listed after spinach (there are little bits of spinach in a number of the flavors). From this I conclude that meat by-products makes up a very small fraction, so I am not concerned (even if also not pleased). Fancy Feast is nothing like the cheap brands that have meat by-products or poutry by-products as their primary meat ingredients. How much wheat gluten does it take to thicken the gravy in a 3oz can? Darn little, and yet the meat by-products are even less. So I am not losing any sleep over this. On the other hand, if we could find some "better" foods that our cats genuinely liked, that would be great. Having tried most everything on the market in the US, we have had no luck! If you are dead set against feeding your cat any amount of meat by-products I can certainly understand that. My advice then is to not ever let them have any Fancy Feast or they will no longer be willing to eat any "gourmet" cat foods. That has been our experience. Part of the problem is that most of the gourmet canned foods are these sticky pates that are almost impossible for the cats to eat--they just spread all over the bottom of a dish and cannot be picked up. The only better quality foods we have had any luck with are Natural Balance and Pro Plan Selects.

With wellness there is the regular, and the core. I believe all the wets are grain free. But check to make sure. With the core dry, it is totally grain free. I think the wellness regular dry has some rice. Wellness although expensive, is priced pretty good at Petco. For the "walk in" pet stores that is.
Thanks Is it like a pate? or chicken chunks? Or?
