Dudley has very fine, soft kitten fur. I was wondering when this is replaced by a more adult coat. Does it vary from cat to cat? Dudley us about 6.5 months and I get electric shocks off him when I groom him and his coat is so fine that it stands up on end. He has a tendency to look really scruffy as his coat is so cotton wooly and dull- I've started giving him some cheese paste with biotin which is supposed to help. He really likes the taste at least!!
hello there :) i noticed that Schrödinger still has some very fine hair along his spine and flanks, but he seems to be shedding at the moment.
Were experiencing the electric shocks as well with him shocking us when he touches nose to nose but ive been told to expect this with the cold weather and humidity in the house so hopefully it will pass in the coming months *fingers crossed*

btw, for the first time last night Schrödinger actually let me brush him with out going mentalist with the brush (and my hand), was awesome and he looked super pretty afterwards :) I think he finally realised that its a "good" sensation :)
Paddington is only just letting me brush him with his brush. I think it is the child in me wanting him to look lovely and fluffy!!!Quote:

I've often read that male MCs take 3-4 years to fully mature, so yes it's possible. I am suprised that no one with more direct experience has waded in yet...
Yes Osiris is shocking me at the moment but so is my Winter... so bizarre and sad when they think I've done it. I was sort of hoping Ozzi would stay this soft forever!:satisfied:
I never noticed the changes in Bruces coat but with Merl I suppose because of showing you would find him having more "differences",he would go between dull,greasy to flowing,exactly like a teenager going through the spotty stage,he was four before it settled into its lovely flowing silk & remained like it without any noticable changes,especially with the tail,the super brush he had as a youngster disappeared for a couple of years & seemed to reappear with his 4th birthday & retirement from the show scene.He also is the only one ever I got shocks off of,still can on occasions. I can't say though that I have noticed radical change in the main texture of the coats as they age,they are all lovely & soft but Welly & Merl are extra silky with theirs,Shims & Pansy are just,soft...,Bruce is soft but with a coarser feel to the red colour & little China RIP used to feel more like a velvet cotton wool but most noticable with her being blue was as she aged she lost all her classic pattern.People at shows used to be surprised at the textures of MC's,how soft they are & when they have touched Shims & then Welly they have also commented on the different feel of them both,don't know if it ties into the genetics of the different colours.
Think about 3 years, old, Athene and Aphrodite went through a sudden change in coat it went from being soft and fluffy to being very full and bushy.. Jet is 4 in February and he certainly has is.
Conditioning the coat if you get static seems to make it even worse,I got more shocks than ever off of Merl when he was conditioned ready for showing, the one I used to luv best for shows was good old bay rum,smells great & gives a good shine & holds the coat down well,just must not over do it...
Dudley also has a scruffy ruff! It looks so straggly!! I guess it must be the most difficult place for him to groom. He got some cheese paste there the other day and had great difficulties licking it off! :rofl: he's a lot better about getting groomed these days and even lay down on his side purring the last time. Sylvester is a different story- he's got a gorgeous thick soft coat which is surprisingly knot free considering he runs away from thd brush. He looks terrified by it! He is really soft but his hair is definitely less kittenlike and fine at nearly 3. We've only had him a few months so unfortunately can't say when his coat changed.Quote:
