Darcy' tooth removal thread

Darcy has been dropped off. We had to wait 45 minutes to check in. The good news is since her chronic diarrhea has stopped she's gained a good amount of weight. She's at 13.2 lbs! YAY Darcy.
I'm supposed to call their office at 1pm and they'll let me know how she's doing and when I can pick her up (It will be between 3-6) They are putting her under with gas and she'll have post op pain meds. They recommended shutting her in a room while she's recovering so she'll be in my room. On Monday next week she'll go back for a post op check and to get her up to date with her shots (Last ones were last March)
I'll post a new update on her when I hear something from the vet. They'll call me if when they get in there they find something worse or more teeth then planned need to come out.
Gabriel was not happy when she was in the carrier this morning. He kept walking around it crying. Poor baby.

Poor Darcy - I'm sure she'll be fine and back to normal in no time xx

Super soft tempting food at the ready mum,its the least Darcy can expect after the trauma of dental work....
Hope she will be one of those that can be picked up at 3PM....x

Yeah I have food ready for her, but they said she won't be able to eat until tomorrow morning. So I'll have some water ready for her at home because she can have that.

I really hope this fixes her up and she doesn't have to lose the rest of her teefers.

She should come to our surgery we allow ours to have small soft light meal when they go home if they are ready for it poor things,they have already suffered starvation,tell her Auntie Jackie will think of her & her grumbling belly....x

Darcy's pre-op blood work came back really high on her immune globulins? I think they said, meaning there's still a really bad infection somewhere. He said some of it might be the teeth. If getting these teeth out and cleaned doesn't improve much then we're going to have to do more testing as it might be cancer :cry: :cry: :cry:

Send us good thoughts that it's all teeth related please?

You poor thing! Fingers crossed that having the teeth sorted will solve the problem. I'll be thinking about you.

Please don't worry too much about it being something worse just yet. Try and be calm and think positively. I know that ultimately that won't change the outcome, whatever it may be, but it'll stop you from being too upset and it'll be better for Darcy that way too. I'm sure she'd worry if she felt you were upset - animals know these things!

WOW!! So. We just heard back from the vet. They pulled 14 teeth. They said they need to go in and pull the rest of them but doing that today would put us over our budget. He also said that ALL her problems he can see straight off are caused by the teeth. So I'll go get her tonight and as soon as I can raise the money all of her teeth will be getting pulled.

He said all of her teeth but the top canines have got to come out asap. So it's a worse case scenario. He said the stomatitis was extremely severe, the worst case he's seen in at least 5 years.

Her nose and throat are inflamed which he said is very common with stomatitis but Darcy IS awake and doing well. He wanted me to know that after seeing the inside of her mouth he can guarantee that when they all come out she'll be much much healthier! I just need to have a toothless kitty.

Off the phone with the vet again. I had some more questions. Turns out Darcy also has something (I don't remember what he called it) but her immune system sees her teeth as a foreign body and is practically dissolving them. He told me 100% there was NO WAY to keep this from happening and it's not my fault at all. He let me know it's going to be about $500 to go in and just pull everything that's left there out completely. She's being put on a steroid and can come home at 5 pm today.

He told me that she's a sweet girl and he gave her some head scritches for me

Sounds like you have a lovely vet :)

I've heard of things like that in humans - only with hair, not teeth. I had something like it myself and lost some of my hair because my body was rejecting my hair.
