Hi all I found a lump just today on my baby Maine Coon's back just beneath her neck, she's only 9 months old.

Think I would get it checked out,is it at the point where she could have had her vaccinations ??? Does seem a bit strange though because by the photo it looks as if something has sliced it open,I would say a trip to the vets for a quick look is on the cards,let us know how you get on....x
Thanks for the reply, its like a circle of white semi -healed/fused skin with a red centre and then on top is a scab which is slightly detached (which you can see on the photo) with fur growing through the scab. She isn't in any discomfort with it but I'm not sure if it could be ringworm?
I am going to take her to the vets tomorrow - just concerned as we are due to go on holiday on Friday
I am sure it will not interfere with holiday,the pain would be if it is ringworm then you will be treating all of the cats,brilliant hobby.
Could just be something like a sebacous cyst,will look forward to your posting tomorrow night..x

hi all, just thought i'd update now i'm back from the vet.
The lump is just a scab on top of the wound where her pre-med injection was for her spaying op a few weeks ago! I'm so pleased, plus the vet didn't charge me for the consultation! I'll drink to that! :)

Thats a brilliant outcome all round then,wouldn't have thought of that one we use the thigh at our surgery.

they did two injections one was a "pre op" whatever that is, and one was the anaesthetic. She also had her microchip done. hmm.....hope it's not where the microchip is actually.........
Yep,thats how we do ours,the first inj.makes them dopey & the second one puts them out to do the op,great way of doing it because you don't need to tube them,we then give a anti reversal drug a bit later on that brings them round quicker,so don't know if she was done the same way or if they put the next bit into the vein,there are lots of different ways.Now I would say it is nearly the point of where the ID chip should be,it is normally put mid way between the shoulder blades,whenever we know an animal is chipped we always check for it whenever the animal comes in so might be worth just asking them to scan Ruby when you have to take her in again,even if it isn't until booster time.Quote:
