Kitten not Eating and Sleeping All Day
Hi All
I have a twelve week old kitten. He had his 12 week vaccines and seemed fine in the afternoon (was playing) but thereafter has stopped eating properly and sleeps all days and nights (very unlike him).
I thought that he may be just fighting through the vaccine but it is now three days later and he only drinks water and has one or two bits or wet food and three pellets. I took him to the vet last night and she couldn't find anything wrong- she did a blood smear and an ultrasound. She thought that it may be a tummy bug but he has had no loose stools.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me please? It's breaking my heart to see him out of sorts and not his usual, playful manner. I am from South Africa and any tips would be welcome.

You have done the right thing taking him back to the vets could just be that for some reason the vaccine has really hit him this time although it normally only lasts 24 to 48hrs,good thing he is still drinking, some MC's go off their food for a few days & go quiet when they have a growing spurt so could just all have tied in together but if he stops drinking or still like it in another day or two I think I would get him rechecked again.
Keep us updated with him & fingers crossed news that he has bounced back & some photos please...x

You must try to get him eating, as he will feel worse, then he will not not eat at all, which is dangerous for all cats, with possibility of liver damage. Tempt him with various foods, or even kitten milk. You can make up an electrolyte fluid, which may help at least give a little energy, with powdered glucose, boiled water and a pinch of salt. If he vomits after you get him to eat, take him back to vets, it may be nothing to do with the vaccine, he may have swallowed something he shouldn't have, causing a blockage.

Thanks for the replies. He seems to be feeling a little better- he has been playing a lot more and not sleeping as much. He is drinking water which is good and has started having a few bites of his dry food. He is not touching his wet food though (which he normally loves), and I have been trying Hills Prescription Diet A/D which is apparently meant to be high calorie and very tasty.

Thats great news,I think if it had been a blockage he would have been vomiting his water back too but hopefully as he had a scan that would have picked up any abnormalities anyway.Yes A/D is very nutritious for them, might also pay to get something like nutra gel plus as an extra vitamin pick up,my breeder always puts a tube of that in her kitten packs anyway but I normally keep a tube on standby, hopefully now he is playing again his appetite will pick up more, would still like to see some pictures please...x

This baby is doing so well! Just over four months old now and growing up to be such a handsome boy! I absolutely adore him although he gives me heart attacks by doing things like hanging off branches with his front paws only and then going into thorny bushes and getting them matted all into his fur which I then spend hours removing from a very uncooperative kitten!
Here are some pictures of him taken recently:
