scratching and scabbing..

Thanks again jckkerrison for replying. I did stop by my local pet store where I get my food and, they have some ointment there with Aloe in it called Zymox. Supposed to be pretty good but, still doing some research on it right now. I have had AV plants in the past but, for whatever reason, I don't have one right now. That will change tomorrow.

Do you mean Antibiotcs by ab? If so, I believe I may still have a small amount left from this last time. I will look and see if it's still good although, again, that's not natural to the body.

Yep did mean antibiotics but just wondered if they gave you a course alongside the steroid inj because if the sores were quite deep then very often the double combination is needed to hit the problem properly didn't mean you to use anything like that now,if things get a lot worse then I know you would return to the vets anyway but fingers crossed for good old soothing "Hello Vera"....x

Poor baby. I feel for you both. My moggie used to get feline acne under his chin. It looked like inflamed blackheads that he would scratch raw until it the sores bled and would scab over. My vet had me hold a warm damp cloth to his chin for 1 minute (yeah 10 seconds at best), then clean it with hydrogen peroxide, then rub a prescription cream on the area. Unfortunately I don't remember the cream they gave me (DH thinks it was Neosporin, not a prescription). But doing all this did show improvement within days. After 2-3 weeks he was healed. In his 19.5 years he only had it 3-4 times late in his life. We didn't make any changes to his environment, food, etc. Just don't know what caused it. Good luck finding a way to healing fast!

Thanks Mom, I will try that and see how it works. I'm looking at this Zymox cream to start using but, not sure about it yet. Good thing is he is still as playful as ever so, his spirits are not dampened at all. I just don't like seeing him scratch so much. So far, the reviews that I have seen for this Zymox are good.

I'll keep everyone updated as I can.

Hi, you mention being in a new place. Could the previous residents have used some sort of chemical cleaners on the floors that could be making your MC react to it? Also,as jckkerrison mentioned the acne, I have used neosporin for that. A couple of days worth and it's gone. Are you putting anything like flea medicine or collar on him? Any kind of powder? Is he getting into something like a plant or bush that is causing him to itch/break out?
Is your cat just weird? Is he from the planet "I'm a weird cat and like to make my mama worry... hahahaha"? I hate that planet.

I had one that suffered from feline acne & just cleaning & adding cream sorted that but we have had them come into work with same problem & they have needed help to clear it up,sometimes being the dreaded steroid plus ab's but what the heck its the animals comfort you have to think about but as I put in an earlier posting some skin problems can be made worse & spread by bathing them so have to be a bit careful if you are not sure exactly what is causing it.Looking at the pictures & seeing how he has scratch marks on his face & also looks as if he is loosing fur around his eye he looks as if he could be allergic to something & I am not sure if you are going to win this one without some medical help it looks really uncomfortable,for sure I think it is going to look worse before it gets better whatever at this stage.....!
As a matter of interest what type of dish do you feed him on ?

RW252, I appreciate all the input and, nothing extreme like moving from a place that was a cesspool of chemicals. I try and only use all natural organic and/or biodegradable cleaners as much as possible.

jckkerrison, he eats out of a ceramic dish, the same one we have used for as long as I have had him and, drinks out of a steel bowl. I'm pretty sure it's not the eating dishes.

Also, just to put this in, he has cleared up before from this but, this time it just looks so bad.. however, I am trying the warm dishrag and, some ointment on him. I will update as things change, or don't.

Only asked about dishes as know of problems both skin & tummy wise with the plastic ones.Good luck with him hope he soon looks a lot better.
