Hey Guys,
My big boy, the ChristedBuddah, has been having issues with scratching his face/chin/head area. I had previously taken him to the vet and he got some steroid shot and, it seems to help for about 6-8 months. We tried it again and, this time, it didn't help very much at all. My big guy is a main coon mix, 15 lbs, and all white as you can see from this pic.
If anyone has experienced this and can help with a home or natural remedy, I would be VERY grateful.

We never were successful in the various treatments tried by vets tho'. We just did our best at watching and keeping the wounds clean. Also trimming of his nails/claws helped some (when he would let us).

the ChristedBuddah, yes that's his full name, is a rescue that I picked up and, he was already de clawed, which I don't approve of but, what was done was done.
would really appreciate any input on this from anyone that has any experience at all and, if they were able to find out how to help the situation.

Our Moggie has the same problem caused by allergies and the only solution we have is to give him a daily steroid tablet. The result is that he gains weight and weighs over 14lb even though he's half the size of a Maine Coon. He just has an extremely large tummy! He's so lovable and we know the steroids will probably shorten his life, but at least he's happy and not scratching himself to bits. As soon as we try to stop the steroids it all starts up again.
Thanks Suzy for chiming in. We have tried steroid shots and, it didn't work the second time and, I'm not willing to give my big boy something that is not natural to his body and, possibly do any more harm to him. The CB is already 15 lbs so, weight wouldn't be an issue for us. :P

Allergies are a nightmare & unless you find the cause which obviously can be very difficult without loads of tests where do you start or finish...? it seems strange that steroid worked last time but not this,does it look exactly the same ,did it clear up last time but came straight back or was there a good time inbetween,does it appear exactly the same this time or is there a slight difference,is there anything that you could link it to,change in food both times,change in something that is used in the home,is he all up on things like flea control,if he goes outside there isn't something that at certain times of the year gives off more pollen than others { if he does go out in the sun at all make sure you sunblock his ears...}the list can be endless,have even known sores under chin to be due from the type of dish a cat has been feeding off of,don't be tempted to bathe them some skin sores can become a lot worse especially if it is more eczema related it can cause it to spread,any aloe vera type cream for cats can be soothing to the areas if you want to try something off the shelf where as tree tea oil can sometimes be more of an irritant.If things don't improve though it might be a trip back to the dreaded place but hopefully someone will come up with something that might click into place, whatever your boys comfort is the main thing he is a super looking lad...x
Thanks jckkerrison, I really appreciate your reply. to answer most of your query, nothing has changed since last time we had the shot other than I am in a new place. But, it's totally got me off guard because, the shot worked for @ LEAST 6 months last time and this time, it's like he didn't even had a dang shot. :-| It's got me VERY frustrated and, worried about him and, his comfort. I really want him to be experiencing the best life I can provide for him and, this really puts a "wrench", if you will, into the works. He does not go outside as he is declawed and, one of the conditions I agreed to when I rescued him. I could try some Aloe cream if I can find some. I'm really @ my wits end here not knowing what to do for him.
If I can get him to hold still long enough, I will take some pics and upload them. maybe that will help in someone else seeing what he looks like.
Steroid will normally only help improve things if there is an inflamatory reaction for it to respond too which makes it seem very strange as to what is causing it,yep pictures could be a help,don't know about where you live but over here you can get an aloe vera plant,both my daughter & I keep one in the garden its very handy for both animal & human use especially if like her you are good at getting burns off the oven,just break off a leaf & rub on affected spot,very cooling & soothing.
Just a thought did the vet give any ab coverage as well either time....?
