Fudge is very ill.
Hi all. Well it has been a very distressing week so far in our household. After taking Fudge to have her opperation we found out she has Stomatitis, a severe gum infection that can effect other parts of the body too. I took her to get her stitches out and have been told that the vet thinks she may have FIP, Feline Aids or Lukemia! To say I'm devestated is an understatement. I am currently keeping her away from my other cats until the bloods come back. Has anyone else had a cat with any of these problems? I could do with some advice! I know we've only had her for just over 2 weeks but she is already part of our family.

Has she displayed any other signs of illness at all?
Stomatitis can be a symptom of calicivirus, which causes redness and ulcers in the mouth so it is possible that if she had calici before then she could have had a flare up since joining your household.
There is no test for FIP unfortunately - all that the bloods will show is whether she has resistance to the corona virus which can mutate into FIP in some cases.
Hopefully it will come back and the vet's fears will be unfounded

Hi Claire,
I know how you are feeling one of my cat had lukemia i did not know he had it untill he became very ill with his thyroid, If fudge can get over the gum infection i think they can have medication to help with the lukemia. Hope all goes well * Hilary

Thankyou everyone for your kind wishes! I wont get the results back til next week but at the moment she is on pain killers and has had anti-biotic injections and eye drops for the eye infection she has as well! I am so upset as we got her from a breeder and I can't help but think that an experienced breeder would have known she had these problems. I would have taken her anyway because the whole family fell in love with her straight away. I'm not bothered about the vet bills, its the distress to Fudge and the rest of us that is so upsetting.
