Why would my MC Kitten suddenly pee & poop on my fluffy duvet? :(
Maybe I'm just real lucky but in my 25+ years of owning cats (always rescues/strays), I've never experienced any of them peeing or pooping on my bed. Unheard of in this house, even the old girls who've had major kidney disease, diabetes, etc.
I've had my MC kitten (posted about her previously) for about 4 weeks now. Initially kept her isolated in my bathroom, then moved her into my spare bedroom. After about a week of gradually exposing her to my other 5 adult indoor cats (all very sweet friendly cats), I left her roam free in the house and all has gone very well. She loves to play with them and they love to play with her. I've kept her original litterbox in my spare bedroom (but had planned tonight to get rid of it now as I want to convert that room back to my craft room) though she's been using the other cats' boxes for 3 weeks now (I have 6 litterboxes in my basement, 2 with hoods, 4 without), no problem.
I went into my bedroom this evening, into my ensuite to use it (haha)....came out and smelled this awful smell. Like cat poop. I searched everywhere. I found it.....on my expensive Crate & Barrel duvet cover that surrounds my even more expensive Pacific Coast Down Duvet. Kitten is still having sorta more loose-ish poops (though sometimes more formed so we're seeing improvement there) so it was obvious whose it was. I nearly sh*t myself! lol. Then....a foot next to it I see a dark area on the duvet cover...sure enough, it's wet.......URINE! The little fart peed and pooped on my duvet. OMG. Could it be because it's just so big and fluffy and she thought it was something to "dig into"? (I do have one cat who will occasionally pee on clean clothes I take out of the dryer, that are in a laundry basket and not yet folded, UTIs have always been ruled out....it's just that she likes the soft fluffy laundry and can "dig into it" like litter).
My feather duvet clearly says "dry clean only" but there was no way I was waiting to take to cleaners and not really sure how clean dry cleaners would get it anyway. I saturated the areas with Nature's Miracle Spray and let it sit on it for 15 minutes.....then into a hot washer with bleach. If I ruin it, so be it but I just don't feel confident that chemicals used in dry cleaning are truly going to clean pet pee/poop, maybe I'm wrong but......
I don't know what else would have suddenly made her do this. I looked all over in my bedroom and she's not done it anywhere else.
Thoughts?
Thanks.

My earlier MC, with the same color pattern(male), after using the littre box for 1 and half years, suddenly started peeing & pooing here n there and I could not find out the reason...
But he was so anxious to get out the home and roam around , and I was afraid to let him do..
But atlast , he started peeing on my bed while I sleep..
I had to let him out and used to come at 2-3 hr intervals..and that letting out stopped all misbehaviours and he started using the littre tray again ,while he was home..
But I don know the reason behind that..
But like you, I could not do anything while looking at the gorgeous..Instead kept on cleaning the bed sheets and covers and houses..OMG..
I just shared my experience.
May more experienced persons give a solution to your problem..

Normally when they do a "protest"its because of a change in circumstances however small & they use it as a protest but daughter had same problem with her MC cat & it was because of the lids on the tray, don't know why she was so suddenly averse to them but when she took the lids off all went back to normal, same thing happened with one of my girls {daughters cat's mum....!} years later & once again when I removed lids all was ok but in my case I wondered if one of the other cats had sat outside the tray while she was in there & felt threatened, one sure thing though is to keep your bedroom door shut from her in future....
Do hope duvet comes up ok...xxx

Might not be the solution but my MCs have been really good with there litter boxes until one day one of the darlings pooped right next to my bed but thankfully on a magazine lol i too was like omg noooo dont start this but his reason was one of my other cats ( i have 2 old girls) was sitting on the stairs and wouldnt let him pass the old wind up she is, she probably thought ill get ya in trouble ya lil furballs lol and since then its been ok although we do have to keep a eye on them all as there winding eachother up something rotten gurls sleep my lil boys bop em n run away the girls payback is simply dont allow them outta a room or up the stairs lol

Well....do you have any idea how long it takes to completely dry a feather duvet in the dryer? LOL. Ended up adding a new tennis ball AND a tennis shoe to the dryer to help fluff up the feathers inside LOL. I slept last night in my room with door closed. Not sure what I should do now? I was wanting to completely remove the litterbox from upstairs spare bedroom (was initially only there while I had her isolated when I first got her a few weeks ago) but now I'm afraid to make this kind of "change"? I really don't want to keep it tho as my other 5 cats are using it too and it's a small box and no matter how many times a day I scoop, it's stinking up the room.
When she 'did her thing' last night, she had JUST done it......so thankfully the pee didn't have a chance to soak through the duvet into the sheets/bed below...but had I not been around, OMG.
I kinda don't trust her now.

I would move her tray outside the spare bedroom door to begin with & you might find she doesn't like it being out in the open so much & start using the other trays anyway,if she still insists on using it gradually move it to beside one of the others, cats are normally pretty bright with their toileting & will go look for the nearest one, hopefully this was a very unfortunate blip....just make sure you keep all bedroom doors closed unless you are right there......x

I had a cat once that wee'd on my 'Then' boyfriends pillow. I was cross but also relieved it was his pillow not mine!! I personally think she was just marking her territory... Don't think she liked him much... Didnt take me that long to agree with her!
Maybe your cat is marking its territory stating to the other cats that you are his territory. It could feel threatened by living in such a large household of cats and feel the need to mark your space as his space.
