Hyperthyroid Cats
Does any one have any experiance of dealing with a HT cat. My DSH has just been diagnosed and put on tablets and just wondered if anyone had any experiances they could share.

Sorry to hear that. I work for a Professor of Endocrinology who deals with hyper and hypothyroid people but I have not had any animals that have had it. People though are kept under control fairly well with medication so I suspect the same will be for cats. I hope so - did your vet explain long term outcome to you? Being hyperthyroid would mean an over active thyroid which often makes it hard to put on weight, is your MC underweight?

Hyperthyroid Cats
Hi H&SWells,we have lots of hyperthyroid cats go through at work, more than ever now as we look after our animals a lot more so they live longer & it is a problem you tend to see in older cats, obviously don't know how old yours is....!
Once the problem is diagnosed & treated most of them loose all the symptoms & go on to lead a normal life again. We have one vet who always prescribes drugs & another one who prefers to operate, both have their reasons for which way they want to treat but as long as there is no problem with dosing the cat then either way is acceptable to the both of you.
Fingers crossed you soon have a shiny coated, well rounded bodied laid back puss again.

Thanks both for your responses , should have explained is my Moggie that has it ...still waiting for my MC to be born, not actually even conceived yet! She is good at taking the tablets so long as in cheese! Luckily I work for uni of Bristol vet school so get a discount! Hopefully that will sort her out.

Simba had both his thyrod glands removed early last year 15yrs old & is like a brand new cat even a little chubby now
Just one bit of warning when Simba was on the pills before the op he suddenly went very wobbley on his back legs & kept falling over he had to have some potassium to & was fine untill he was ready for his op, just incase this happens to your cat as it was very scarey x
