My lovely Brisca has come down with really bad runs. She is totally fine in every other way but she really does have a runny bottom. I have taken advice and am starving her for 24 hours (the most awful thing I've had to do!) and will start introducing chicken and rice tonight. Anyone else have any ideas? Brisca will be 2 in November.

You are doing the right thing - usually remove food for 24 hours to let their belly settle. Then slowly introduce bland food (broiled chicken is best), mushed up rice etc. Maybe your cat snuck something (droppings in the kitchen etc) and it will pass. Keep up fluids - that is important or they become lethargic very quickly. Just watch your cat and if it continues after a couple of days, take it to a vet. There are special biscuits and food you can get if you think your cat has a food sensitivity problem.

Freyja had the trots a week or so ago and although I didn't withdraw food entirely, I just left her some kibble out. I also got some diarrhoea tablets from the pet shop, ground 1/4 of one tablet up and sprinkled it over her kibble. Her stomach upset had cleared up by the following day.
Thats great. Pleased I'm doing the right thing. I bought some of those tablets from the petshop today so fingers crossed!

If Brisca seems fine in her self then you are tackling the problem the right way,the old saying is if you keep stoking the fire it won't go out so by withdrawing food for 24 hrs you normally win if it is just a slight tummy upset. I always have a product called Kaogel in my animal "first aid box" it calms the tummy quite quickly,that is an old fashioned product,the modern version of that is Pro Kolin which you can get over the counter at vets or various other places.I always think that is something handy to have on standby & as already said keep up the fluids,like us that is the vital thing & get advice though if it persists.
I had fun a couple of weeks ago,same problem ,diarrhoea,trying to keep trays clean while five of my six & one of daughters two were in full time occupancy was great ,even better trying to feed the unaffected ones normally while the others were at varying stages of starvation but all over within the 24hrs of starting.Did come out of it though without having to wash one pair of drawers which I thought was rather lucky !
Now got to stock up on fish again ready for the next time.....
Good lord, that sounds like an educational weekend... the worst I had to contend with was being hissed at because I took too long to clean the litter tray!
I thought I had it bad trying to isolate one of 4 and feed her/starve her away from the others!! I've seen that product and am putting an order in today!! Thank you very much jckkerison and I hope you don't have that to sort out again anytime soon!
Must be the time of the year for the squirts for the cats. Zack has now got it - went to the vets and he has just lost his fangs and the new ones are coming through so that may be contributing. Timmy is going in to get teeth cleaned tomorrow so perfect time - no one gets anything tonite and a small breakfast tomorrow after Timmy has been dropped off.
I was given Ensal ( it has kaolin in it ) and only to give 2 doses and then see if all returns to normal. He has no distention or temp and doesnt seem unwell at all so fingers crossed. Will let you know the outcome
ps - wrapped Zack in towel to put 4 mls down his throat - worked a treat
I always find if a kitten or indeed a cat has the squits... which touch wood, mine have only had once last year and that was because of a bad batch of KMR milk and its was only for 3 days... I always do the following.
Take away their buiscuits, give them some cooked chicken with rice or some fish.
Sprinkle human probiotics on to all their food for about 2 weeks even when they have not got the squits no more..
And give them natural yoghurt with probiotics mine love it especially the actimel
Mind I do feed this yoghurt and Qwark all the time they kinda love it... lol
