Just sacked my vets.... Any experiences.??
I have just sacked my vets today...
Still in shock actually... but hey... I have 3 weeks to find another one....
Well just got back from the vets... who is now sacked... Thursday was bad enough when the kittens went for their vaccines and microchip, 4 of the kitten had to be re microchipped... they went right through the skin.... plus got home with 2 pets passports with nothing in them... and two pets passports with new owners with information missing???
NOT HAPPY at all.... this is the second time this has happened... now as a fully qualified Micro chipper my self I was really angry... I CANT get the chips here, or I would do it my self......
My kittens where still, purring in fact.... no moving no wriggling... STILL.... grrrrr... Then to top it all I could not pay the bill, I have 2 bank accounts for the vets one Dutch one German.... and my precious VISA CARD... I could not find my DUTCH card.... but thought hey no worries German one is Maestro... I have used it in England for god sake... Nope the machine would not take it.... any ways the receptionist ( I will miss her she is so nice) said don't worry you are back on Monday pay us then.... I thought okay... No worries... went to today had 5 first vaccines came to pay.... CASH!! to include my vaccines and chips from the other day!! 1,157.75 euros was my bill, walked out... to my car and just happened to look at the bill... MY breeders discount which is not that much was missing, I went from me paying 30 euros for the first vaccine to 40 euros.... I went back in to discuss it.. to be confronted by the vets wife..... who told me I had lost my discount because I did not pay... in full AT the time of consult...??? 4 and a half years I have used this vet.... THOUSANDS of Euros I have spent there every time paying in full.... This years alone from January which is our financial year!! so far I have paid in excess of 3 and a half thousand... with blood test checks, vaccinations... etc etc....AND I LOSE my discount because they can't take my card... SHE said we have to pay extra???? to use a German card and or Visa... and this is my problem why?? Maestro I live on the border can use it in all other shops???
THIS IS NOT A SMALL PRACTICE..... they have 6 vets working most of the time....
AND.... so for 3 days wait 2 of them weekend.... I LOOSE MY BREEDERS discount SHE said yes!!! I said BYE......
It takes me 45 minutes to get there, then 45 minutes back...I sometimes I have to wait over half an hour after my appointments... for all the paperwork, and sometimes I have waited over 40 minutes to be seen despite having an appointment...
The vets them selves normally are excellent and very thorough, which is why I have stayed with them for so long plus the clinic for HCM test etc is attached to them... I now will have to go to Utrecht which is 2 hours drive...
But NOT ANY MORE.... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.. it was only 3 months ago I had long discussion with Jan the owner, because of the problems with the microchips... plus 3 months after some kittens left I found out they had not sent the chip papers off... very angry owners on my back, and I KNEW nothing...
I asked them to send them in the post so I could do it my self they said NO>>>> it might get lost you have to come and get it????
Thank god Amber is going to be a vet>>>>> only 8 more years to wait.. lol...

Just sacked my vet
Oh boy I feel sorry for you, going to put a lot more travelling on but can't say I blame you,we try to get as much of the paperwork done before people arrive & if we know a breeder is coming in with a litter of babes we normally phone them to get as much detail as we can before hand, works well so we only have to weigh & enter that when they arrive.Very naughty about the ID chip forms as well,we send the main copy off & always get a certificate of posting just to make sure. Why can't you get the ID chips, wont whoever trained you supply them.I think you are brave that is one thing I wouldn't want to do.
Is it only eight years before Amber becomes a trained vet or starts training ?
Hope you can negotiate a good deal with her.....!

Hi, My own paperwork is in order... its theres... or was, this time I took a ragdoll for a blood test ONE RAGDOLL.... they where told this, in advance... all my pets passports where for ragdolls... and I have Abyssinians, Mainecoons and BritishI do not breed or indeed own Ragdolls.. this baby is here for 6 months quarantine before he comes to the UK...
All Id chips are different country's and the UK where I took my course with Pet chip in 2004 I have chips for them in a box but I cannot use them here.. when I was doing it my self all was in order in fact you do not have to send the forms off it was all done on line.
All my new owners give me their details on their first visit but all the microchip details are in my name because over here they are dual registered so in my name and the new owners... they didn't even register them in my name..
End of the day I have bitten my tongue now for over a year and a half, I tried one other vet before and she did a blood test on one of my stud boys for FIV etc and she had to sedate him, I have got blood out of Frodo my self he is easy... and they took it out of his neck which I think is Barbaric...
What bothered me is the state also of the ragdoll who had a rabies antibody blood test and he came back to me with bandages on both legs and he was so dam miserable for 2 whole days...
I have to start looking this week... right now the experience is very raw..
Over here School is different Amber does not finish normal high school until the end of this year... when she is 18 then she has 2 years in college before she goes off to Utrecht uni to study to be come a vet.... SHE BETTER give me some good discount or she is in trouble.. You get family allowance here until they are 25... lol...
What annoys me is I am a fully qualified doctor and I can get my vaccines from a supplier I have used in the past when I lived in the UK, average combi vaccine costs about £6.00... but although I could give them to my older cats I cannot do so for kittens etc.. and Microchips also cost such a small amount... and they charge so much and mess it up.... Vaccine and Micro chipping is a vets bread and butter you would think they would be very careful what they say.... however no use crying now is it... the letter I wrote Jan the vet will leave him knowing how I feel about his surgery...
when I first used them they where a small practice in a scruffy little place but so friendly and efficient... they are so big now they do not care... The vets struggle also because the receptionist refuse to help... say no more..

Just sacked my vet
We are a small practice,I always class us as "The Corner Shop" in the veterinary world
but it is great when people comment on how friendly it is & that we know all our clients personally as well as their animals. We do also take blood though from the jugular vein,a lot quicker & easier & have lot less trouble with the cats by just tipping their heads up & talking to them while it is being done, have found it a lot less stressful for all concerned. Have had the odd cat that has had to be sedated for this procedure but normally they are the ones that try to lash out as soon as you touch them, great fun & has on occasions been cat 1 staff 0...
Hope you soon get things sorted because the one thing we all need is a surgery & vet where we all feel happy & confident. My daughter has just moved away & I went with her & one of the cats to the new vets for the cats annual booster, always think it is a good way to introduce yourself & weigh things up,one of the first things we do at boosters is check ID chip, they didn't even ask if the cat had one but everyone was very friendly & an older vet came to see us when she heard there was a big MC in the consult room so we came away feeling that they cared & show an interest,so fingers crossed, otherwise she has a four hour drive to come back here, not ideal !

Hi, I am sure you know what your doing and my practice I had in my home town of Lancashire was much the same as the kind of surgery you sound like you have.
I do not and will never allow blood to be taken from my cats necks, I can get the blood out with out shaving out of their front forearm in a matter of minutes and have for years I worked part time in my friend practice doing exactly that... Its person choice for me... and to be honest after what i saw happen with Frodo I will not let it happen again a simple blood test turned in to a very expensive procedure and one not so happy stud boy and to top it all they shaved his leg and his neck... and he is a Lilac colour pointed and it ruined his coat...
I have contacted the chipping place over here whom have seen my credentials and it looks like I will get the microchips no problems just have to now find a nice vet for all the rest!!
Thanks again

Yes the prices are very expensive and I have been paying 25 euros for the microchips... which again is extortion... but You KEEP with them, because a good vet is hard to find.. but since they have become larger they really do not care... so its time to move on...
I like him... he is stunning, and huge... but we have no girlys for him.... so he has to go soon...

New Vet!!
Just to let you know I have a brand new vet, and I am very happy indeed I have been now twice with 2 lots of kittens, for vaccinations they are so nice and so friendly and thorough!
I have not got yet a breeders discount but even without it its cheaper than the vet I have been using for the last 4 and a Half years.. so my worries for good Veterinary care is over!! Plus its only 26 minutes door to door!
