Can anyone tell me if my two new cats are maine coon?
I've just adoped two lovely huge cats. Bobby is male, black and white and is a real little (huge) stunner. Bobby's mum Chelsea is all black and is adorable like her son. Chelsea is 8 years old and Bobby is 7 years old. They are really easy to brush too and are very vocal. They also both have huge bushy tails :D
I do hope someone can work out what these two are :D

Congratulations with gorgeous kitties! I am not an expert but the black cat has more Maincoon features while black& white may be a mix. They have maincoonish muzzles and sizes, and look very dignified.

Crikey, that's a biiiiiig lad! Must surely have some MC in there, for sheer size! Beautiful cats, and love Bobby's black spot! Welcome!

Cute and large cats, but do not look like MCs to me. Tails way too thin, coats not long enough, etc. You can look at the MC standards with photos by clicking on the Seminar link on this page:

Hi Kaz, and welcome to you and your furries.
They are striking indeed … especially the mum, I have a thing for solid blacks.
You will find many people on this forum who have purebred MCs as well as other breeds, shorthaired moggies and MC-lookalikes of unknown descent.
Thing is, there are a lot of huge semi-longhaired cats about. But that doesn’t mean they have MC in them. Huge size alone doesn’t point to MC ancestry. And not all MCs are huge … our Minnie is an example.
The MC originated from unknown mixes and was only later developed by people into a distinct breed. Of course, the same unknown mixes that gave rise to the MC still exist, and your fine pair are good representatives. I hope I'll see and hear more about them on here.Last edited by Antonia; 7th January 2011 at 08:17 PM.

Hi Kaz, Bobby and Chelsea, welcome to the forum. Very striking cats, and I have to agree with Howlinbob - I love Bobby's little beauty spot. It gives him a very regal look.
I'm not sure I can see a lot of MC physical characteristics from the photo's so would be inclined to agree with the others, but whether they've got MC in their heritage or not, they are stunning cats and will no doubt bring you a lot of joy. And biceps judging by the size of Bobby!

Thanks guys
I'm just wondering what breed Bobby and Chelsea could be?? :D
Rachel-C what looks like real babies on top of my wall unit is actually Reborn Dolls. Reborn Dolls are made to look like real babies (There was some documentary on it on tv some time ago), I was fasinated by them and brought some, of course I have never taken them out anywhere like some people did in the documentary lol :DLast edited by Kaz542; 10th January 2011 at 04:41 AM.

A great sense of humour candes
I would have thought though even without papers and being domestic long/short haired there would still be a breed that could be match to their size and temperament, etc although I could be wrong??
