    We've chosen our kitten

I was going to suggest Zooplus & Pets at Home but great thet someone else has already trailed the sites in front of you. Looking at reasons for not having two together could soon be put into perspective,if his dad is allergic what difference then one or two, actually a lot of people who are allergic to cats are actually fine with MC's, if one cat can't meet the dog again what difference two,in the first year to eighteen months two babes would be able to travel in the same carrier & if you could get one with wheels {covered in another thread about pet carriers on the forum} you most probaly could put your own baggage on top of that although of course you will find you pack more for the furries than yourself, when we do cat shows & stay away for the night I travel with toothbrush & clean underwear the rest of the bag is took over with their "might needs"....!
The second babe that we had as an extra was actually always with the one we were having, right from the day they were born they would both be side by side when feeding & once they started getting around if you found one then the other would also be there, when we went to collect them they both sat side by side & we always reckoned that at that point if we had still decided on the one only we would have had to give in because no way could we have split them, never regretted the decision though, they are both very different in size & temperments but great fun, eyes in your backside doesn't help when they both gang up against you.
If you are only having the one now though it is great to know that down the line you have a Teddy playmate to look forward too as well & the waiting & fun starts all over again...x

I only mentioned Dave's dad's allergies and the dog to point out that Teddy will categorically not be allowed in their house. Maybe they'll come round eventually but for now that's how it it.

I think we just didn't want to commit to two until we know for sure we could handle anything that came up. The long term plan is definitely to have more than one...I don't want to think how many we'll end up! A girl I know started with one two years ago and now has four!

Bringing Teddy over to NI should be okay - my mum already has a cat and since I'm going home I wouldn't need to bring loads of supplies with me because I can just phone ahead and tell my family what he'll need.

We'll see how Christmas plays out!

    We've chosen our kitten

I am not a cat person but started with one & up until a few weeks ago when we had to say goodbye to our first girl who introduced us to the breed we had six,I am still trying to get my head around only having five....! They are rather addictive.

Hi there, how exciting for you, bet you can't wait! Teddy sounds adorable.

Look, don't think too hard about this, but just get Teddy's little sister as well, quick before someone else reserves her. She and Teddy have naturally paired up in all the muddle of kittens tumbling around, and it will be so lovely if they can grow up together. They'll love it, you'll love it. As for going away to visit family, don't take them. Leave them in a decent cattery when you go away like Jackie does, or use a good pet-sitting service. If that means you can't stay away for quite as long, then so be it. You won't want to anyway. And you'll have a ready-made excuse for hurrying home.

    How about it?

    Oh, you're naughty!!

We never go away for very long anyway (4/5 days max) but we're worried about not being able to find a good cattery...we don't want him to be stuck in a cage.

Congratulations! I got my first MC (Rasputin) 3 weeks ago and he's brilliant. He's an only cat (but between my boyf and I we work from home 3 days a week) but we've got him loads of stuff to play with and he seems quite happy...

The one tip I have is to get some cat deterrent spray and coat any electrical wires with it because Rasputin luuuuuuuuuuuuuurves chewing wires and doesn't seem to be the only one... Whether you do end up getting both or just the one, they are awesome!

Keep us updated and can't wait to see some photos!

I don't think any cattery would be allowed to get away with using just cages now they are pretty strict on the rulings, ours have a lovely house with heating during the cold weather & a great pen to go out & play in,plenty of extra carboard boxes provided for my crew plus extra large cat trays out there. All you need to do is google the catteries in your area & go look at them. When daughter moved she found a cattery less than ten minutes away where the owner has maine coons & used to be a breeder, she actually had cats there that came from a breeder where two of mine come from, small world & no worries because that is someone who knows all about MC's.Ours have to go a lot more regular now for long weekends but I have no worries they put themselves into their pens, clients who come into work & have seen them down there when they take their own cats in always comment on what a happy bunch my lot are when they look through the window at them.

Dave is saying no to a second kitten! I knew he would but I'll not tell him it was you guys encouraging me :P

I don't have any experience of catteries. I'm from a rural part of Northern Ireland (okay, so most of it's rural!) and when mum went away we left our dog in kennels. She was a cavalier king charles spaniel so was quite small and also the favourite breed of the owners so she was allowed in their house with them a lot of the time. However, when I went there we were taken into a big warehouse type building and she was put in a pen by herself surrounded by loads of other barking dogs. I'd never leave Teddy somewhere like that! Okay so cats don't bark or anything lol but I just have this vision of catteries as being the same sort of thing. I think if I had to go away and leave him, which is terribly unlikely as if I go home, Dave would stay in Glasgow and vice versa, we'd just ask one of our more responsible friends to come and stay at our flat.

Teddy already has a human godmother and godfather...Haha! Apparently before he arrives there'll be a kitten shower (for the girls) and a wetting for the kitten's head (for the boys) so I'm sure there'd be plenty of volunteers!

    Congrats and welcome Stacey :-)

I usually get my bits from PetsAtHome - I'm expecting a new little chap tomorrow, so have just got back from there with a boot full of stuff! They normally have good deals on food and sales on quite often.

I hope your wait doesn't feel too long! I'm going to have issues just getting through the night tonight! Best plan for number 2 though, because they are addictive! I've lasted 4 months before giving in to another lol!

    Sian x
