My New Kitten!

Oh loads of our friends are SO excited about Teddy - he has several god parents, a kitten shower and 'wetting of the kitten's head' planned for him/us. Hehe!!

His mum is a dog person...a very serious dog person and so is all their family. Their dad is allergic too. They're the kind of parents who still tell Dave what do to and when to do it. I don't think they're happy about the cat. They're nice people but I don't like how controlling they are. His sister isn't nice at all though - just rude. Haha!

Stacey although I work at a vets & luv all animals I was a dog person cats done nothing for me,up until the last few years had never been without one or two dogs,something went wrong though when I was introduced to the MC,also a lot of people who are allergic to cats are actually ok with MC's,my friends son had a terrible allergy to their domestic pet cat but now there has been three MC's in the house & he has always been fine.
Sounds as if this could be the deciding point in your OH's life where he has to start speaking out,good luck.....!

Yeah, I grew up with a Cavalier KC spaniel called Fifi - she was the best! We didn't get a cat until three little balls of rescued fluff ended up with us when I was about 14. I like both cats and dogs equally now - with both you get the good and the bad I suppose!

At the extreme end, there is a well-documented link between young children (esp. boys) who exhibit hatred for animals and sociopathy and psychopathy.

I can understand people not liking certain animals because they're afraid of them and do understand that some people have had bad experiences with cats being vicious and so on but we've tried to explain to those people that Teddy is a well socialised, people-loving kitty and if they can't love him for his cuteness then they're clearly flawed themselves :P

On a more serious note, my flatmate studies psychology and has told me about awful cases of children mistreating animals.

I just got an email for our breeder saying that Teddy went for his vaccinations yesterday.

She said that he was very good compared to the others and kept sniffing the vet more than anything else! He was running around again last night so he seems to have dealt with it well :)

She also said that the little silver and white boy we were thinking about has now been reserved - I don't know whether to be pleased or a little bit gutted? As we said though, if it was going to happen, it would happen. And now another couple have a lovely new baby :) They've decided to call him Alfie.

Got another little Teddy update! Apparently his brother (who we also really liked) is staying on a little longer too so Teddy won't be the last kitty to go!

Regarding the cat/dog debate I grew up with dogs (GSD's and Labs) and I can honestly say that that my pair are as loving and loyal as any dog, they have soooo many cute traits an d are amazing with children.

Just remember it's yours and Dave's choice to become Teds slave - don't fool yourself that you are his owner:nod: I got some ribbing and friendly abuse from my family but as soon as they met them all but one melted.......my Dad is never going to admit he could like a cat! strangely though he always looks for them when he visits

My family only had dogs growing up, as my mother is extremely allergic to cats. She got a cat as a child and then had to give it up because of the allergies, so she seems to have decided in her mind that cats are not good pets. She could not believe that we have cats now, and never is interested in hearing about them; if I try to start talking about them on the phone, she suddenly has to go. Oh, well. If she doesn't want to hear about a major aspect of my life then so be it.

I have to say that I was very skeptical about cats originally as well. My wife (who had a cat growing up), started feeding a stay MC mix, we eventually took him in, and surprises of surprises he became my cat. While I have known people with cats that I would not care to have, Maine Coons are extremely affectionate and people oriented. I frankly see no difference between our cats and the dogs I have had in terms of the affection I get from them nor the love I have for them. "Dog people" that have never had MCs are simply ignorant about how cats can behave. We have only MCs now, and I do not miss having dogs at all--even though I had dogs my entire life (many decades).
