Have my Coonie baby, but other cat not impressed...
Hiya.
Well we picked up Sookie Saturday evening and she has settled great.
She loves attention, loves getting in your face and loves playing in her water dish!I have let her and my current cat smell eachother scent and yesterday introduced them thro a stairgate. Sam was fine (although very wary and defensive) till Sookie squeezed through the gate and then he bolted.
Any advice on how to carry on? Do i leave them seperated for longer or keep introducing them gradually building up their time together??
I want them to be ok but Sam doesn't seem keen at all at the mo

What a gorgeous girl - she's going to be a real beauty.
I think you need to be patient with the 2 of them getting introduced - some cats bond within a day and others can take weeks! Try to keep them supervised when they do meet in case they fight but otherwise carry on as you are letting them see and smell one another.
I tend to find that feeding them side by side helps as well as playing with a toy that they both like as that encourages them to be closer together with a bit of distraction!

What a little darling, she is very beautiful ! congratulations. As for the introduction thing, I wish I knew how to crack that one. I brought Harry into the house with my moggie (girl) and and first she was ok, a little wary but now as he's got older and bigger than her she is a little hissy miss. He only has to walk past her and she hisses and runs away, unfortunately Harry thinks this is playing and chases her. Luckily he is such a sloppy buggar we haven't had any cat fights but I wish they would get on for Harry's sake really he would love to play but I guess she will never come around now.
I hope you have better luck with yours

Thanks for the replies!
He is getting used to the idea she is here. Weather he likes it or not, lol. So hopefully over the week they will learn to tolerate eachother and get on a bit.
She just wants to play. But he is only just one and normally really playful so was hoping they would play together (eventually)....
We will see

Have my coonie baby
Have to agree with Louise she is a little stunner, also try to pick up on some of the other threads on here where others have had to make introductions, there has been a few who never thought peace would reign in their household again but....
I think it is better for them to meet up with each other sooner rather than later & while you are around to supervise but just don't let them pick up on that or you might find Sam plays up to it more, can't blame them really having their space invaded by a crazy little whirlwind because of course they were never like that themselves, were they....?

Yay for smokes!! She's stunning :-)
Well I've just added a new chap, but I didn't do the whole separate thing. Moshi was *very* shy when I got her, but Moto was such a laid back dude, I thought I'd give it a go straight away.
There was some hissing and grumbling for a couple of days from Moshi, but Moto just looked at her as though he was saying "what are you moaning about" lol.
Now, two weeks later, they share food (when I let them!), she washes him when he's asleep and I haven't heard a grumble for over a week now. He just made himself comfortable and she just dealt with it.
I guess what I'm saying is that it's about their personalities. I knew Moshi would be skittish, but I knew he would handle it. It took her a week to get back to being herself, especially with me. She's a snuggler in bed and only did that again a week after.
Play it by ear. If you think Sookie is "calm", then maybe just try them together and see what happens. If she's not, then bit by bit might be best.
They'll get there, whichever way, so hang in there :-)

Thanks for all the replies!
Well it has been 3 day now. And they are having more time together. The spend alot of time chasing eachother. Sookie is very outgoing and you'd think she'd lived here forever. She just wants to play wih Sam.
He is getting better and when they chase he does that little meow/chirp thing that they do when you come home and say hello. So a friendly noise. They just get a bit overexcited and he has bitten her tail once. Not that dhe notices. And sometimes he will clonk her round the head with his paw. Naughty boy.
But he is still young and playful and hopefully they will soon be snuggling!
Hopefully the chasing and pouncing wil calm down a bit. But there has been no hissing which is good.
I'll keep you updated!

It sounds like they are doing fab - it is so lovely to bring in a kitten who is confident...shows that the breeder is doing a good job with socialising.
It's amazing sometimes just how quickly they can adapt and I am sure they will be great friends before you know it.
Would be lovely to see more photos (hint, hint!)
