Simba's trip to Groomer

Simba went to the groomer today - I have been unable to keep up with his ever growing thick coat and it was beginning to get matted. I have never gotten him used to being brushed and as soon as I start he rolls over onto his back and starts to attack the brush - so today I took him to a groomer in defeat. I picked him up an hour and half later and what a lovely surprise. Simba had been groomed thorougly, all the mats had gone and she had given him a bath (he smelt wonderful) and clipped his claws! She said he was a very sweet natured cat!!! and very handsome (I had to make sure I had the right one). I told the lady I've no idea how she did it and explained what a nightmare he is with me, thinking she must think me useless but she said they are often better away from their owners. Anyway he looks so happy to be home and he must feel much better too, his coat looks lovely and I can't stop picking him up to smell him. Will definately be going back to her. Oh and I need a good cat carrier if this is going to be a regular thing - but I'll start another thread.

When people come into work who say they can't get matts out of their cats if they are not too bad I take the owners & cat into another room get out the grooming kit & go for it & very often succeed,again because it is someone different they behave better anyway but have also known client to say that they are not so firm as me because they are frightened of hurting the cat,that would take some doing,my daughter has to muzzle one of hers though,because he is so big he can get the better of her just because of his size but with a muzzle on which also covers the eyes on a cat he is putty in her hands & a perfectly groomed cat once more.
So pleased for Simba that he obviously enjoyed his experience & I know what you mean about the lovely smell,I just love the smell of mine when they have been bathed for a show & as they pass by that nice smell just wafts up,bliss....... very sad isn't it.

Gracie is fine now about being groomed after a lengthy struggle over the last few months. Monty - ah, now that's another matter. Still hoping he will grow out of the wriggling stage - honestly that cat's a bleedin' contortionist!

Glad the cat groomer did a wonderful job - I have such a great mental image of you picking up kitty on a regular basis just to get a good lungful of lovely freshness!!!

Hmm, cat muzzle theres an idea! Hector thinks grooming time is play time and tries to get the brush or comb off me after about two strokes!

He will also only let me trim one or two claws before the scissors are fair game :pissed: I had thought of a good old JAK cat restraining bag for that task :rofl: Oh if only he knew what mummy has access to :winkwink:

Karena that sounds just typical haha the kids always behave better for others than with you. At the moment bungo thinks his brush is a game but he is a little kitten and is grooming himself just fine. I think i'd like to take him to a groomer eventually though simply cos im scared of clipping his nails (i've heard of horror stories about cutting too far and making them bleed!) How much roughly is a day out at the groomers?

Karena, I had to do exactly the same thing with Freyja - she isn't afraid of brush or comb but likes to try and catch it to chew it. I can usually get a couple of strokes down her back and then she gets very irritable, and wriggle like she's got ants in her pantaloons - and after all that, I'd never get near where the mats were starting to develop! I was getting so anxious about her not being able to clean bits properly that I found a local groomer and had exactly the same experience - apparently, Primo Psycho sat quietly on the groomers lap (turncoat even had the audacity to enjoy it, purring through out), and I was complimented on what a beautiful and well mannered cat I served. I did check she wasn't grooming two cats at the same time, but it was definitely Freyja she were referring to. And she said the same thing - so many slaves comment on what a mare the cat is to groom at home, and turn out to be putty in the professionals hands! I think Jackie's got a point though - I suspect I could afford to be much more forceful but I've never seen a cat groomed and would hate to hurt one of them. Plus Freyja is so bendy and wriggly she's a bit like one of those slinky toys - only a bungy strap could keep her still long enough to get a comb near her! She looked great after the grooming, but they went a bit mad with the Ferminator and she's now got (at least by maine coon standards) the most pathetic looking tail you've ever seen!

Oh yes, Mum's next staff sale may be for more than just kibble:nod:.....however I do draw the line at that crazy mans softclaws (check you tube for the dragons den apperance) as they can not fully retract their claws with them on. Roxy is heading for a declawing if she does get one of our heads, She lies in wait on the stairs and tries to get you as you walk under them:grr::grr:Either that or Buster walka boots!!!!!!!!

That would be interesting although I could enter Shimba in it without any help from grooming equipment,no ruff & no tail he is a pathetic specimen full stop,I keep hoping he will be like Merl & at the grand old age of four come into full plummage but I am not holding my breath.
Will be interesting to see how the coats come back after having so much taken out by the ferminator,I wasn't happy how it left Cheeky Chinas,luckily she was the only one I had trialed it on so passed it over to ex son in law who says it works wonders on thinning the dogs feathery hind legs....!

Sylvester looks at me as if I am about to kill him if I go near him with a brush- luckily he keeps his fur really well! Dudley on the other hand is a bit of a scruff bag but he lets me brush him although he plays with the brush too. His trousers get really tangled so I had the really lovely job of cutting dangleberries off him last night. He was not amused! Neither was I to be honest, it's never good getting so well acquainted with a cat's rear end! :LOL:
