Edward
My cats (including Edward) went out on Thursday night as is their norm......I went down to see if they were about before I went to bed, as is my norm and none were about so off to bed I went. Friday morning I heard Elvis outside so I opened the door, Elvis skipped in and Edward fell over....he got himself over the doorstep and right away I saw something was terribly wrong, he was unkempt, covered in twigs and leaves and dragging his right back leg behind him, so I scooped him up and took him upstairs......couldn't feel any obvious fractures but his back claws were scuffed and broken so I thought "RTA", phoned my vet and because my car was in the garage he came and picked us up. Andy xrayed him immediately and couldn't see any fractures so we examined him again, found a wound on the left of his flank, thought he'd been shot but no pellets showed up on the xray, found another bigger wound on the right hand side and came to the conclusion that he'd been attacked by a dog, which had sunk its teeth into Ed's back.........we dripped Ed up for the shock and GA'd him so Andy could check for nerve damage/spinal trauma.......no spinal damage but severe nerve damage so he stayed at my work all day, I took him home so I could nurse and medicate (Vetergesic, Metacam and antibiotics) him over the weekend. We had a very quiet weekend, tho lots of concerned visitors came to see him, phone calls, Facebook messages, the whole caboodle. Took him back to see Andy on Monday morning, still dragging his leg, not using it at all but he does have some deep pain sensation when Andy pinched his toes, growling and trying to get his leg away, so hopefully he's on the right road and he regains full use of the leg otherwise he'll become part of the exclusive Tripod Group we have at work.....

Everything crossed for poor Edward, its good that he has some pain reflex bless him.
I had to go & pick the body up off the not very busy road of one of my domestic cats & seeing how a lot of them come into work I vowed never to have another feline
& have only changed my mind by finding the MC who being so people orintated are happy to forget about the big wide outer world,I know one could {has}got out but
have got away with it luckily & it has made us make things more secure out in the garden for them.
Edward will have to go for some hydrotherapy.....!
Will watch out for updates....x

Thanks for all your good wishes for The EdPed. Its been a week now, he's getting about great tho he's still not using his leg at all and as I said he has deep pain reflex when we pinch his toes. I give him physio twice a day and he just looks at me as if to say "just leave me alone eh?" lol. I now have him on Zylkene and have Feliway diffusers all over the house because understandably he's completely traumatised and hides away from everything all day, he comes to me for a cuddle and reassurance when he wants, he's eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally so thats fine. Just a long waiting game for him now and am desperately hoping that one day Ill wake up and see him tippy toeing on his back right leg.
Thanks again everyone
Mhairi & Ed

It sounds like you are doing everything you can for him, I hope he heals soon! Is he dragging his leg behind him or just limping badly? All fingers and toes crossed for him x

Missye87, he's dragging his leg, not using it all, but really its not stopping him getting about, he needs a little help climbing on the couch and bed though! lol
Candes, it is just gonna take time I know, just hate to see him like that you know?Last edited by Plummy; 21st May 2011 at 01:14 PM.

Of course you hate to see him like that, it's horrible when they are hurt or ill :( Hopefully he regains full use of his leg! Give him lots of snugs from us
