Unhappy EH Angelo!! Blue Silver Tabby Boy not gaining weight

Hi all. I have 3 maine coon kittens, 2 boys, Eh Angelo, Danny A! and La Divina the girl. All are of course gorgeous. All have the same sire and different award winning healthy dams. Angelo is not gaining weight. He is 7 weeks older than DannyA! who is 6kgs and 10 weeks older than Diva who is 5kgs, he is 13 months and weighs a scant 4kgs. He has not gained any weight since Xmas. He has been for a battery of tests, scans, poked and pulled, blood taken, tested and retested 4 weeks later and the only item of notice is a slight elevation in his liver levels but that is of no significance to the vet. Now he has diarrhoea with red blood. I have emailed the vet but the office is not open Sundays. He is in good form, active and attentive, playful and affectionate. But he is not gaining weight commensurate with his size which is quite as long as DannyA! His previous diet was Hill's Optimal Care chicken, then I changed the kibble to Royal Canin for Maine Coons and now the vet has told me to use Royal Canin SC29 (blue mackerel and rice, no cereals whatsoever) and since he has been on it he has the runs. I have had to provide the same diet to all my cats (I have 5 more cats, an elderly elegant Russian Blue, Gloria Mundi 17, a white and black guy Luther MartÃ*n 14, a fat grey and white tabby boy Six of One 7, a tortie and white Starry Luce, 4 and a Somali boy Ozzie Mr C nearly 3. They are not mad about the new diet and Gloria refuses to eat it at all so I am sneaking the Hill's to her. ANYWAY has anyone got a solution to this weight thing? Thanks in advance, Roserie

Hi Roserie, Has you kitty been tested for Giardia? Both of my MC kittens had it. No idea where it came from. Typically, Giardia is a parasite common in dogs. It's not part of the regular parasitic screening test, you have to ask for it. I am so glad my Vet had this insight, as it is uncommon in cats. Tried several meds, including the gold standard, Metronidazole, only Panacur worked! It was a long road!! If any symptoms at all, Diarrhea is the main one! Good luck, fingers crossed for you!
