Mick have you found that having been a single kitten, Gypsy is a lot more confident? I was reading something about that but I can't remember where now...I thought of this little lady!

The article was about the differences in kitten behaviour based on the size of the litter. I'm not sure I completely buy into it but it said that in larger litters of kittens there was often a 'leader' whereas in smaller litters they tended to act more as equals, spurring each other on (to mischief, probably!) Then it said that single kittens were interesting because they were apparently the most confident with humans.

Most certainly, Gypsy is the first singleton we've had, and is by far the most advanced for her age regarding confidence. She was climbing and exploring much earlier than kittens from previous litters. She actually answers when i talk to her, and she comes running to me when i go into see her in the nursery.

I've noticed that there is already a pecking order developing with Saffi's litter and they are only 5 days old! It seems it might be a gender thing too as the males are far more "pushy" for want of a better word.

One thing I have heard before and also found to be true is that if 2 kittens are rehomed together they tend to stay "Kitteny" ie more playful further into their adulthood. We bought Jasmin as a single cat and she matured very quickly, didn't play so much after she was about a year old, she still plays but very infrequently. Whereas we bought the two brothers Rocky and Diesel together and they still act like kittens at over 2 years old.

If I had the nerve i would explain this to potential owners who come to see the kittens, but I don't as i feel it sounds too much like a sales ploy sadly. " hey, take two kittens they stay playful longer"
