    Am I being greedy??

    Hi All

Not sure why I'm posting this, I suppose I'd like other people's thoughts on the topic...

As you know I am a seasoned pussy cat owner and my most recent addition to the family is Poif. She settled in really well and has been very close to my housemates cat Norman. I own another cat named Delphy but she tends to keep to herself and doesn't interact with the other cats.

My dilemma is that I have seen that Poif has enjoyed and benefitted from Norman's company, but my housemate has just moved out and Norman left us today. :( There's a part of me that REALLY wants to get another kitten. I cannot however afford another Maine Coon/MC x. Should I just get another moggy? Would it be unfair to Delphy to just bring another cat into the house?

What I really want is for a 'stray' kitten to randomly turn up on my doorstep so I don't have to make a decision that I may or may not regret in the future...

    Any thoughts welcomed.

The Maine Coon is such a popular breed that there's now a lot of Maine Coon mixes in shelters and rescues, many of them have that same Maine Coon personality as the expensive cats with papers.

There are lots of purebred cats at the St. Tammany Humane Society in beautiful condition. St. Tammany's is a no Kill shelter on the Gulf Coast and might could provide transportation if possible. You might want to check their website: St. Tammany Humane Society to check out what cats and kittens they have available. Take their virtual tour and also meet the pets online. It's the most impressive animal shelter I've ever been to. I went to visit the shelter and was just floored at the incredible caliber of pets they have for adoption.

I would go for another feline friend & as Elismom has just picked up if you are in the UK could be the answer right here on the forum, also over here there are several people who have been asking for homes for adult MC's so would just keep trawling the sites of breeders because they too very often have rehomings from people who have had to give their furries up for what ever sad reason & they have been returned to the breeder, good luck....x

I am 'looking into' getting another MC. How much is reasonable to pay for a pedigree without papers?

I'd be wary of buying a 'pedigree without papers' MC - you could be getting yourself into a really expensive situation if you buy a kitten from a rogue breeder. I don't see why any reputable breeders wouldn't register their kittens.

You could look into a mix? I'm not sure if you're in the UK or US but if you're after a kitten and not an older cat (there are plenty in shelters, esp. if you're in the US, which are part/most/all MC and I'm pretty sure there are some examples of these on this forum) that might be a better option. There's just something about someone saying 'these kittens are pedigree MCs but we're going to sell you one at a cut price because it doesn't have papers' which makes me feel really uneasy.

I would agree with everyone on here, don't buy from someone selling pedigree kittens cheaper because they haven't got papers with them,I have seen the results of some of those sort,as no doubt you have picked up by now from other threads there are genuine MC's needing rehoming for some unforseen reason ....x
