How Often Should You Bathe Your Maine Coon
We got our two kitties last Thursday. I know they love water and the breeder mentioned that both had been bathed. The male seems to like to play in the litter box so he had had more frequent baths prior to our receiving him! Aside from the times when it is obvious is there a preferred bathing schedule? Thanks!

The only ones of mine that have been bathed are the show cats, the other three have had the "drawer wash" after mishaps but nothing else,I let them have the running tap to stick their heads or paws under if they wish, they do the classic swilling water around in the water dish but I have never had reason to actually put them in the bath & do a complete head to toe so unless you are showing them then just normal grooming could be enough.Great that the breeder has introduced them to the bath though...

I don't think its a bad idea to keep them accustomed to the occasional bath, once every month or two so that if the time comes when you need to bath them it's not an almighty battle where you'd need a suit of armour just to be safe :-)

I must be pretty lucky then, although Merl used to have baths for shows he had finished that before he was three & was still quite a lightweight, when he went to do his fundraising last year as he looked a scruff bag nearly four years later & a lot more weight under his belt I once again put him into the shower & he was a dream, daughters cat same, never had a bath & last year her coat seemed to go right greasy after she had been a bit off colour so we thought we would give it a go expecting fireworks & half an hour later with the plug hole well & truly blocked we all reappeared with not a scratch or swear word, she really seemed to have enjoyed it & she was coming up to twelve.....Although some of ours have never had full baths right from babes we encouraged them to jump in an empty bath for playtime & after a while left a bit of water in so they played & had fun hoping that if ever we had to do the full bath they would just accept it as an extension to fun time, show cats have but a couple still to find out if theory works or not !

I've given Poif 2 baths before, which she seemed to handle very well... She had a dodgy bum over the weekend and we had to bathe her back end, and she has never fought so hard!! I think partly it's because Rich wasn't very confident at holding or washing her so I was trying to do it all one handed. I had hoped the 2 previous experiences meant she was going to be accustomed, but the older she gets the more she seems to know her own mind and what she will and won't have!!

As a rule we lock the door when we use the bath, just for that reason.
They love to jump in the bath, lay on the towels, run off with the toilet rolls etc!!!
As we all know, they love water.......

No bubbles in the bath, they were after my rubber duck!!
Raggles does love the fairy liquid bubbles in the kitchen sink though.
