Welly has found his purr....

At 3yrs 10mths old Wellynton Boots has found out how to purr,I always thought his brother Shimba had taken it over as he has never stopped from the day we had him,Welly is vocal in the talking department & his voice is really deep,comes from his "Boots"but never has he given the slightest hint of purring but today when I cuddled him & done the usual ear tickles I suddenly realised his body was vibrating & soft purrs could be heard,didn't want to stop in case I never hear it again but fingers crossed now he has found it he will continue to purr at cuddle time & hopefully it will get louder,it will be great to add the fifth purr to my cats voice choir,bless him......

That is so sweet Jackie, made me want to cry. Now he's managed to purr once, I'm sure he will do so again and shows he must be truly happy with you x

As far as I can tell, Elvis at ~2 and a half years is still stuck in the teenage "I'm too cool to do that" mode.

I know that he can purr. One time about a year or so ago out of nowhere he jumped up on my lap,
which he also never does and started purring up a storm for a couple of minutes, caught himself,
and jumped down, looking around to see if anyone caught him being uncool.

One time only...

Sometimes when he's laying out and I pet him I can hear a low rumble going on in there if I put my ear close enough.

I'm guessing when he gets over being a teenager he'll come around.

You could be right about being "cool", Welly has always been the mischevious one of the two,no way would I do anything wrong mum,must have been him.... so it all ties in doesn't it,Shimba purring & cuddling to make up for being landed in the s**t by his bruv & Welly just letting him carry on,Shims has grown up enough now to walk away from trouble so perhaps Welly has decided that he had better start purring & making up to continue getting away with things.Will be interesting to see now when Elvis becomes "uncool",can just imagine him looking round to see if he had lost his street cred...x

Well, odd timing given this thread, but Dicky is very close to a proper purr. He has always had a breath driven purr - sort of purr ... breath in ... purrr ... breath in ... etc. but he jumped up on the bed earlier and almost managed a full joined up cycle. And Leo, he just has a very quite purr under that hug fur coat. But he does, at least :)

Having had six of these darlings I can honestly say I can't believe how different they can all be but still have all the underlying mainecoon traits,it has been even more noticable having the two bruvs together they are just so different in size & characters but they both have the same basic chirrups,,bag & box fetish,I can empty everyones handbags it is my privilage,I will fit into that box however small,play fetch,sit where you want to sit,come on your lap for a cuddle & paddle just as a vital bit comes on telly so you can't see it,learn how to put a paw under the kitchen tap at just the right angle so you get sopping wet & then look at you as much as to say ooops did I do that well lets have a head butt & kiss to make up but they all have become purring machines at different ages,Bruce ,Pansy P & Shimba have all been from the start,China RIP took a couple of years,Merlyn only really in the last couple of years so he was five & now Welly has got the tick in the box,luv em all though.....
