Tequila and his tricks
Tequila has a few tricks up his sleeve that he wanted to share with everyone. He can give us a high 5 and shake a paw. We are so proud of our boy.

Wow, Tequila you did such a great job! Keep up the good work. You'll have those humans eating out of your paws soon. Love your lynx tips.

Well done that cat! (Even if there were bribes offered, you are still hyper-cool )
I have almost got Leo to do high-5s with his huge paws, but he mostly tries when reaching up from the kitchen floor to the counters - he reaches out with his front right paw almost like he's yawning. It's quite adorable.
PS Love the huge, square scratching post next to the sofa.

Thanks friends. I'm bragging a bit cause Mommy calls me a smart boy. I think it's gotten to my wee wittle head. That's not all I can do. I can fetch too but that's no fun cuz I get no yum yums.
Momma says to tell you Peter that the scratching post is from Amazon.com. It's called the SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post. I like using it. But I like the scraching at the sofa and Momma and Daddy's bed too. Momma gets mad when I do the latter. But she doesn't stay mad cuz I just blink and give her my best "innocent" look and she just melts into my paws.

Tequila is fab - such a clever cat. How did you teach him? I've just tried the same thing with my MC and got nowhere. Kitten just looked at me as if I'm stupid!

I don't think Kitten thinks your stupid, he's just thinks your weird..... Okay, I guess it's not much better is it? Sorry.
It was slow at first but Tiki picked up the tricks in no time. Firstly, the key is having treats that are their favorite. Tequila loves the Natural Balance, no wheat, corn or soy rabbit flavor morsels.
I started with the command " name, shake a paw or paw". Followed by taking his paw in my hands and giving it a shake. I would praise him for being a good boy and finish off with a treat. I would repeat 4 times, and doing it everyday until he was able to give me his paw on his own.
The high 5 trick was easy after that. Being that he loved his treats, I would let him sniff my hand that was raised to his eye level and he would try to paw at it. Once he did that I used the command, "Name, high five". Repeat as necessary.
Last night, I gave him some cooked chicken. OMG, you would think he died and gone to heaven, the chicken was so good. I gave him a bit from the container on the counter then I put it in the fridge.Well, if I wasn't watching the bugger, he wouldhave jumped onto the counter to find more. The little smarty pants can't outwit me.
Learning tricks take time and consistency. But if they know they get a yummy treat, you will be successful. Good luck! I'll look for your "Kitten can do tricks, come see" post.Last edited by LilyC; 19th November 2011 at 08:25 PM.
