I have noticed that when Roxy "talks" she usually does a double syllable chirp, like "eh-eh" and I noticed some Maine Coons on Youtube also doing that (but others just one syllable, or a bunch of noises together).
So I am curious what other peoples' Maine Coons do, does yours usually do a double sound like that, or just a meow, or just one sound?
My two are polar-opposites when it comes to talking.
Poif is silent, almost all of the time, in fact she reminds me of the puppet sooty as she still manages to be very expressive despite her silence. I have heard her meow, but only when very unhappy i.e shut in a room/travelling. It's not an attractive sound, a low sound but produced in a way that definitely sounds like grumbly talking, she reminds me a little bit of the old 'Charlie says' adverts!! (Charley says... Ffion on the other hand, has an endless array of sounds and noises. She ppprrrrpps a lot, in various lengths. She has also started meowing back when spoken to, mostly when asking to put the tap on in the bathroom. Again these sounds vary from a chirup to a long and loud mmmmeeeeeeoooooooooooooow. Always polite sounds and always very tuneful!
Ours all sound very different too ... Finn is extremely talkative and does the pprrrps, chirups and long, loud mmmeeeeoooows like Ffion (sadly not always tuneful tho!); Marco doesn't talk that much, but makes it quite obvious what he wants (or doesn't want !) with a loud sort of cross between a meow and a chirup, both the boys purr like trains - start talking to them and the motor gets going :-) Tess talks quite a lot, but usually as squeaks of varying length and volume! She hardly ever purrs, but when she does it's extremely quiet and ladylike, more a discreet rumble than a purr.
Larry, our big loveable clown, is very vocal, and very loud. Sometimes to get our attention, and sometimes just because he's having a great time playing.
He has been known to shock visitors who think there's a small child hidden away somewhere howling for attention!
By contrast Monty has a very sweet, soft voice which you don't hear as often. Next to Larry, it sounds like he's whispering. But they both chirrup rather than meow.
Little Herbie our kitten is like his big brother Larry. Chirrups a lot in his little kitten voice, it's soooo cute!
Mufasa is a double chirrup cat! He's always 'talking' and almost sounds like he's moaning when you accidentally wake him up or when he jumps down from a high ledge (he probably is). :rofl:
