    Female Neuter!

    Hi peeps...

My baby will be 6months next week, was wondering at what age is best to get her neutered.

I know some get them done young & others wait,so is the question is!

Do I wait till after she has been on heat or is it best before!!!

If she is an indoor cat and not around males it's ok to wait. But much longer and they get bigger requiring more anesthesia, etc. I have a female on the smaller side and waited and she did fine..and actually I think I like her temperament a little more now But the vet encouraged me at 4 mos...

I have a brother and a sister - around 3 months old. I'm terrified at the thought of waiting too late! I'm probably going to take mine in at around 4 months - I just can't risk waiting later.

What age has the breeder specified on your contract ? I am one who likes MC's to have growing time before they are neutered & wouldn't look to get a girl done before eight to nine months which is the age my breeder puts on her contracts anyway, two of my boys were not done until even older but that was with the breeders permission. It is not good to spay them while they are in season but also if they are not going to be bred with they don't want to have too many calls before being done, they normally come in at about 5.5 to 6mths then come in about every 6wks average depending on the time of year so there should be no problem if you are in a situation to leave her a bit but then you can get the exception to the rule one who starts spraying, doesn't want to come off call that then changes the whole situation, get it done,if there are problems that is the time a vet overules the "not spaying while in season".As long as you know she can't be got at do it at the age you feel happiest.

Our kittens (both males & females) are neutered in 16 weeks of age. We have never had any problems, kittens recover very quickly (usually never notice surgery and play as normal at the same day).

Thats the issue,at what age is the right time!

I got her from a friend at work,so no breeder to ask, just the thought of her getting frisky while we are asleep,we both work!

Will phone the local vet & see what they recommend. thanks

If it's not breeding cat I don't see the point to wait. For me sooner is better (faster recovery, less stress and lower risk on pyometria or brest cancer). But that's just my opinion. And there is never too late

Some vets will always quote the usual age for neutering cats about 6months wether they are little domestic or MC's thats why I gave you an idea of the options open to you,my vets don't neuter MC's until they are the 8 to 9 months unless there are problems or other un neutered cats in the household, a vets down the road does them before they leave the breeders so that is under the 3mths so hence the "do it when you feel the time is right",if she is a happy little girl growing well leaving her a while won't hurt if you have any doubts get her booked in & done at the usual recognised age of 6mths no worries then at all only you dreading having to take her to the surgery & leave her ....
