Yes, it could be their size and loudness, although their meow is totally out of sync with their bigness..... a huge cat walks out opens it's mouth and a tiny little meow comes out... it's hilarious.

My sister had never heard this chattering also, and she has had cats all of her life.

Yep chatteres in my lot & six of them first thing in the morning having a session at the blackbird that visits them sounds wonderful {not} but makes the day start off very lighthheartedly & they all vary in volume of teeth clashing & vocal chitters.....

I didn't know that some cats didn't do this. My old moggies did and Dicky does to. I am waiting for the other two to join in though...

Same as Peter, it's our movie that does the chattering. So far MC not displaying any chattering at all.

All my cats have done this and the babies have done it since they arrived. Usually if there is a fly in the house.

Yes another chattering household here. Come to think of it, all the cats I have ever had have chattered at birds I just thought it was normal! Years ago I remember asking a vet why they chattered and he said it was them practising pulling out the bird feathers and getting their jaws exercised for when they pounce! There are quite a few cat chattering video's on YouTube

Monto often chatters while he is trotting around the house. Goes "meep" with every step he takes. We can always hear him coming, lol.

Maya is the more of the chatterbox than Tequila. She's constant. Sometimes we think that she's crying but she's actually chattering to Tequila (this is when they play)
Our breeder called her "a very expressive kitten". That is how much she chatters.
