    Chattering Maine Coons

Both my hubby and I have had cats throughout our lives but we've never heard them chattering. Merlin and Louie both chatter when they see birds out the window, it's hilarious. Of course I just can't get it on video since they seem to stop whatever they are doing when the camera comes out. It took me forever to get one of Merlin eating with his paw.

It is great when they chatter, I'm surprised you haven't heard it before as all the cats I've had have done it but maybe it's more unusual than I thought :D

All my cats have done the chattering thing to some extent. Maybe it's more noticeable with the MC given their size!
We have lots of squirrels whizzing past our garden so our cats do a lot of chattering!

Yes, it could be their size and loudness, although their meow is totally out of sync with their bigness..... a huge cat walks out opens it's mouth and a tiny little meow comes out... it's hilarious.

My sister had never heard this chattering also, and she has had cats all of her life.

Yep chatteres in my lot & six of them first thing in the morning having a session at the blackbird that visits them sounds wonderful {not} but makes the day start off very lighthheartedly & they all vary in volume of teeth clashing & vocal chitters.....

I didn't know that some cats didn't do this. My old moggies did and Dicky does to. I am waiting for the other two to join in though...

Same as Peter, it's our movie that does the chattering. So far MC not displaying any chattering at all.

All my cats have done this and the babies have done it since they arrived. Usually if there is a fly in the house.

Yes another chattering household here. Come to think of it, all the cats I have ever had have chattered at birds I just thought it was normal! Years ago I remember asking a vet why they chattered and he said it was them practising pulling out the bird feathers and getting their jaws exercised for when they pounce! There are quite a few cat chattering video's on YouTube
