My Lovely Emma comes home in two weeks
She is beautiful , and I am excited and nervous
I have travelled constantly for a decade , so this is my very FIRST Cat
please , anyone with any helpful advice for a newbie , feel free to come and say g'day

Welcome Peter & also soon to be new arrival Emma,she is just so sweet,I always think this is a good time waiting for a new arrival just like xmas is coming early.No advice other than be prepared for an experience with an animal you would never have thought possible,the MC is something else & I am sure that now you have obviously stopped your travels & taken the plunge it won't be long before she has a playmate.
As long as everything you have bought for her is large to start with you should have no problems,along with all the cat basics required make sure you have a scratching post....!
If you have any problems pop on here & I am sure someone will pop on & help but other than that enjoy,have fun with your new babe & post lots more photos of her please let us know what she is up to...x

Agree with all the above. You are going to have so much fun. When we got our 2 kittens we stopped watching telly and going to the pub. Are there any other members of your family, furry or otherwise?
It's worth bearing in mind that kittens imprint their early experiences. So the food and toys you give her now, will most probably end up being her favourites for life.
Here is a cautionary tale. When we got MC no 3, Herbie, the OH made the mistake of putting him on the piano on his first day, because it made a cute picture. Solid white kitten, massive black grand piano. Now, at 6kgs, Herb thinks the piano is his personal trampoline. He likes nothing more than to skip across it, even when the lid is slightly raised. When we tell him off, he just laughs at us and does a little tap-dance.
'When we got MC no 3'....see how this is going? One will not be enough, I promise you.

From my experience about an MC..I was not a cat person or even an animal person b4 I had to take care of a cute 3 month old n naughty MC on behalf of a friend..I still remember the cute eyes focussed on me the moment he entered my home..Soon I felt a wieght on my long hair on back n was wondered to see the kitty hanging there n was afraid for a while as I had no previous experience with cats or kittens..n I thought " Kitty..we will b staying together only for a few days.."but the next day I was woke up at 5 am by Meow..n slight rubbing on my face with a furry paw..n cake making on my chest..I would not allow even my parents to wake me up..so u can imagine how angry I was..he led me to kitchen n I srved him food n came back ..he also came back n just laid on my body n slept in a second with the cuteness that only an MC can have..omG..the next day came for him the new littre box..n when my friend asked whether he should take the kitty back..I told NO..within 2 days..Now ..I love each n every species of Cat..not only MC..n I am sure it is because my first pet was n MC..their intelligence..dont care atitude..the cuteness during sleep..fitting themselves into spaces which cannot accomodate their large body..waking us up in the morning..
I promise you..u have made a good decision n the coming days are going to be the most wonderful in your life..

Hi, just enjoy becoming a slave for the rest of your days which i'm sure you'll love. They are however very addictive. A simple tip, bearing in mind coonies love water, a brilliant product on the market often found on ebay is a road refresher water bowl which stops them splashing water all over the floor and soaking everything, we've used them for a few years and they're by far the best thing on the market for coonies. Good luck with becoming a slave :)
If Emma is your first ever cat, have you ever lived with dogs?
You would notice similarities and a lot of their behaviour and personalities are on a continuum. Cats get just as fixated on their people as dogs, but the biggest difference is that you must quietly earn a cat's trust and affection; they don't come begging you!

I have both types of carriers,I prefer the wire carrier type as they are really strong but due to having so many cats also have a "sofcrate" which is brilliant as it folds away & you can get them in quite large sizes,whatever you go for make sure it is a top loader,a lot easier for dropping a reluctant cat into or even more so if you are unlucky enought to have a sick or injured cat.A lot of the plastic carriers do unclip half way down so you can take the lid off but working in a vets I can vouch for lost minutes doing this....!
My wire cage is {sorry this is old measurements not into modern still have to have it translated for me} 19" x 13" x 14" & my 10kg boy travels to shows very comfortably in it,he can't lay out but tucks his feet up,nods off & forgets about everyone, that particular cat has travelled a lot better in that then the sof crate although he is happy in that if he has someone sharing with him,that crate measures 24" x 13" x 14".If you get something like a sof crate just make sure zips are fastened at the front we have put one cat in top for a show & when we have gone to load up thought the carrier was lighter than expected,show cat out of unzipped front flap another cat in its place... Happy shopping you are guaranteed to spend more on this cat than you would yourself or anyone else....!
Sorry to butt in, but can you use the sof crate for vet trips Jackie? My problem is being able to carry the generous one by myself, last visit nearly killed me!!
