Slugs
Just reading about cats being involved in accidents and finding them, then watching a TV report about the number of slugs in our gardens this year, reminded me of finding one of our cats in a very sorry state foaming at the mouth, rushing him to the vets and discovering he had eaten slug pellets and been poisoned - he didn't last the night. This is about 15 years ago now, so I'm wondering if today's slug pellets are still as harmful to pets. Just thinking that more people may be using them this year and worrying about cats that go out of the garden. My two stay in the garden so hopefully not such a worry but judging by the amount of slugs in our own garden there are a lot of them out there.

Yes I wonder if slug pellets are still as dangerous to cats. I used to put them down in my garden to no ill effects (on the cats anyway). Now I don't use them at all and the flowers have to take their chances!

Normal slug pellets are still dangerous to dogs, cats and children. My friends dog almost died last year from slug pellets it had got hold of in her fathers garden. It was touch and go for a couple of days. Fortunately she pulled through. You can buy animal safe slug pellets now though.

That's good to know. I haven't used pellets for years, and try to plant slug resistant shrubs and bedding instead, with the occasional slug pub if they get really bad.
