It's Been a While but we have been busy....

Hey all! Its been a while since I posted, but we have been quite busy, especially on the MC front. Some of you may recall me asking about building a cat run..... well, after some messing around, we convinced my dad and his wife to leave Wales and come and spend some time in London - nearly a week to be exact. Everyone mucked in to help, Dad, his wife Pat, myself and Jonathan and our daughter Beth and her b/f Andrew. It's not finished yet, thats a job for over the summer [if we ever get one] but it is cat proofed and the MC's can now enjoy some fresh air every day. So, I of course took some snaps, nothing artisitic, sorry, but you get the idea.

Anyway, they love it and spend hours out there every day. I plan on replacing about half the grass with gravel or similar and adding a water feature, some planted pots and of course, shelves, ladders, toys etc....

Looks brilliant so far, they will love it and you won't keep them out of it, even in the rain! Look forward to seeing more pics as it develops. We had ours built about a year ago now and it's the best thing we ever did. Am in the process of refurbishing ours with new floor coverings, a purpose built outdoor cat tree/climber and lots of rustling bamboo - its difficult to get ours inside now :)

Absolutely luv this!!! It definitely gives me some ideas for our boyz - we just have to worry about the dreaded Arizona summer heat! I've been wanting to do this for a long time, as they love outside and hate being on a harness/leash the entire time. Thx for sharing with us!!!

Good work! Do they have free access to the run (by means of catflap) or do you carry them from the house to the run?

Free access through the conservatory windows at the moment, which are open all the time we're at home :)

Yep, as OhFah says, straight through conservatory window atm, though come winter we are considering a cat flap in the wall under the window.

I have just been sitting here planning the main large climber I want to put in, using posts like the ones used for the uprights [but shorter, obviously] and now I just need OhFahs credit card to recover so I can get the materials.... :001_unsure:

They love sitting out in the rain, whilst the tree we deliberately left in provides some shelter from sun and rain. Dizzy is very fond of curling up at the bottom of the lemon scented conifers, it is definitely his favourite 'patch'

What wonderful havens are appearing on here all of a sudden mine will be getting a complex soon & think we are treating them as second class MC's.
We have a dog flap go from the sitting room out into the cats pen which has been well worth while putting in & very handy being able to lock the little darlings out when you have just cleaned up for visitors & want them to walk through the door & see that the place can be furrless if only for a very short time....
Will be interesting to see what appears once the credit card has recovered, I have already got some ideas from Steve's photos!

Well, no real additions yet, but I can at least take photographs of them out there now which is rather nice. Starting with Abbie [I keep spelling her name differently,one day will make my mind up but I doubt she cares], who is the most reserved of the three.

Cat flaps are great for allowing the furries access when you are not at home. We put our cat flap through the wall into the run. Only problem with living in a 200year old cottage, the walls are nearly 2 foot thick solid stone!! I took me 2 full evenings after work to cut through!! Cautionary note!! Due to their size I put in a medium size "dog flap" which is great for them, BUT in winter the wind howls through it!!

When I last had a cat flap, my psychopathic Yorkshire Terrier shared it very successfully and only once got stuck! With the two Jack Russells we have now, I'd give it about six hours! :rofl:
