Ran-Gan, The Young Maine-Coon
Let me introduce Ran-Gan. He's a young Maine-Coon we aquired from the local rescue. When we brought him home he was 15 months old, at least that is what they told us, now he's pushing 2 yrs.
Attachment 6868 Not long after we brought him home he developed a fungus (ring-worm?) and lost his full mane. It made his bare neck look like it was six inches long. As you can see he's now growing it back and starting to look like a 'Maine-Coon' of all things.
He only weighed 10.4 lbs (4.7 kg) when we brought him home, small for his age I thought. He wouldn't gain weight and so it was back to the vet. We found out he had a tape worm. They said he probably got it from eating rodents or perhaps the Anole lizards we have here in Florida. He has been treated but we're waiting for him to gain weight. Still only 10.4 lbs (4.7 kg) as of a day or so ago. But he seems to be doing somewhat better. He still seems to have a delicate stomach and suffers from nausea, and the resultant regurgitation. My wife seems to think its due to hairballs and so has taken to brushing him several times a week which he loves.
Attachment 6867Attachment 6869 Likes stretching across the bed and keeping anyone else off it least wise. The Vet said he caught the ring-worm and tape-worm in the rescue shelter among all the hundreds of other cats.
We call him Ran-Gan because our gran'daughter wanted to name him Randall, I thought he looked more like a Gandalf. To avoid and argument and foster good feeling with the gran' we named him Ran-Gan.
