    Finised Cat Tree

    Edit: title should read "Finished"

After a long time spent gathering materials, the cat tree that I said I was going to build is complete. Still need to install some eye bolts to hang toys from and some eye bolts on the top columns to hang a hammock from. The first picture is 98% of the cut wood that I used for this project. In all I used over 2.5 sheets of 4'x8' 3/4" plywood, somewhere in the neighborhood of 15' of 12' wide carpet (2 colors), 400' of 3/8" Brazilian sisal rope, staples, and some good hardware to keep it all screwed together. It took over a month from the day I started cutting wood until I put it all together in my house, worked on it pretty much every day and had several issues I had to work around. Next step is for the kittens to be born...

The tree stands 79" tall, it's 3' wide and 4' deep; 200 cm tall x 91 cm wide x 122 cm deep. I wanted to weigh each peice before final assembly but I forgot. If I had to, I'd estimate 250 to 275 pounds; 113 to 125 kg. The hide away is large enough for a full grown adult (i.e. me) to crawl through the door and fit completely into. It's strong enough for me to lay on the first beige level.

waw great job Brims! kitties will be sooo happy in/on there!
I have tried to find sisal rope online, but what I found was extremely expensive - did you find some cheap one or did you decide to splash out?

The place I found is SISAL*ROPE*SISAL*ROPE*SISAL*ROPE*SISAL*ROPE*SISAL* ROPE they sell it in several different lengths. According to an email they sent me they switched suppliers recently, they used to sell a 900' roll, the supplier called it 1200' but it was closer to 900', but it was closer to 3/8" in diameter. They now sell a 1200' length so I'm guessing that the new supplier is actually giving 1200' instead of the shorter amount.

With shipping, price per foot is pretty good, my order was $137 with shipping for 900', so $0.15 per foot. For me, having the spare isn't a problem as it allows me to rewrap several posts in the future or make more scratching posts. They only having shipping options on the website for the lower 48 states, but state to email them for other options. This is the only site that I can find more than a few hundred feet at a time from. I would think suppliers would be more abundant. Hope that helps.

Edit: Ok, the title to their website appears to be annoying. My experience with them was pleasant none the less.

What an excellent cat tree, a piece to be well proud of.
Bet it lasts for many years, unlike the shop bought ones and looks soooo good too.
The kitties are going to love it.
