Found cat
Poppy my moggie came running in the house this morning with eyes the size of dinner plates, I knew something spooked her and looked outside. By the side of my house stood outside my kitchen door was this cat who came over to me, he was really friendly and didn't mind me touching him.
He looked at first sight a large healthy cat, but when I touched him he was matted all down his sides and quite skinny underneath all the matted fur. He was almost shouting at me to feed him, so I did, despite being told by hubby it wasn't the right thing to do. He ate a sachet of food like he'd never eaten before so I gave him a second which he demolished in the same way. I managed to take a picture of him/her, (didn't get that close) I am sure he is a mc mix, what do you think ?
I have since looked on the national missing pet register to see whether anyone has reported him missing, but couldn't find anything except a similar advert that didn't have a picture but the area he was missing from is about 3-4 miles away. Any suggestions would be appreciated !

He does look a bit like a maine coon doesn't he. Obviously hasn't been looked after for a while though if his coat is matted and he is skinny. It could be that missing cat - 3 to 4 miles away isn't much for a cat. My grandfathers cat made it back 6 miles to their home when they moved house once. Perhaps you could let your local vet know - often they know cats or dogs that have gone missing. All you can do is ask around and maybe post on the missing pet register. I wouldn't post his picture though as you may have people claiming him that don't own him. Just ask if any one has lost a large long haired cat recently but don't say what colour he is. Is he still with you? If you are going to try and find his owners it maybe better to keep him in so he doesn't wonder off again.

I've just registered him (without picture) on the register and will ring the local vets in the morning. I didn't realise cats could go that far, so maybe it is worth giving the owners of the missing cat a call. I just didn't want to give someone false hope if it wasn't theirs. I'm not able to keep him in the house, but my neighbour said he has been about last week so hopefully now i've fed him he won't wonder too far.

Re:Found Cat
If you think he would be friendly enough to handle take him along to your nearest vets to get him scanned & fingers crossed he could have a microchip in. I wish they woud make ID chiping law,it would help these lost animals to be returned home a lot quicker.

Difficult to say. Can you ask the people to post a picture? It is possible he has been missing that long - he could have been getting the odd meal from people like you who feel sorry for him or even catching the odd mouse if he is a good hunter. There has certainly been no shortage of water recently!
