Can anybody recommend a Maine Coon Proof Electronic Feeder???

WE bought an electronic feeder over 2 years ago for Winston as he was constantly waking me up during the night begging to be fed. We managed to pick up a feeder which served us brilliantly for over 2 years however Winston recently discovered how to open it. He must have been studying the mechanism since we bought it and recently had an Eureka moment. We now can no longer feed him this way because as soon as the food goes in..........he thinks it's a challenge to get the food out.

As a result we are back to sleepless nights.actually I should say I am, as my husband never wakes and I am the one Winston ends up tormenting:pissed:

WE really need to find a new electronic feeder...but one now that is Maine Coon Proof. We have looked at afew feeders but they are very flimsey. I have tried googling electronic feeders for dogs but can't seem to find any.

Any Ideas folks?

Wow, that is amazing an electronic feeder, what will they think of next? I feed Ginger can food during the day and I leave a bowl of dry kibble out all of the time. If she is hungry at night she has the kibble to munch on, of course she is a kitten and is not over weight. So maybe leaving a bowl of food out at night for him, would he be fine? I had a cat that woke me up every morning at 6 a m, she did not care if it was Saturday or Sunday, she wanted to eat, she would tug on my hair until I got up and fed her. Of course she was not over weight. I had a male cat that I just left food out all the time and he was huge! So I guess it depends on the cat.

Donnad: I wish leaving out a bowl of kibble before bedtime was sufficient...but I'm afraid it's not. He is given a huge feed of kibble before midnight and food is also left in one of those puzzle eggs so that he can play with it during the night and get the food out.

It really is essential that we get him another electronic feeder which we can set to open early in the morning.
P.s: Winston would eat anything that is put in front of him. He doesn't understand the meaning of the word "rationing"

sorry, I feel your pain because Neevie also has a mind of her own and once she's got something in it it's not getting out. However I don't have any idea on the feeder yet - have you looked up on Amazon?

Before we got cats I looked into automatic feeders and I found 2 that I would consider if it came to us needing them, Automatic Pet Feeder | Dogs | Cats | Pet Feedster and Automatic Pet Feeder - dog & cat feeders, stainless steel throughout I think I was leaning towards the Perfect Petfeeder despite the price. Apparently that unit is now discontinued, the site says mid-2013 for a replacement model, but that has come and gone. Hopefully this helps.

yes, something designed for dogs would probably be sturdy enough!

Here is a link to a automatic pet feeder that we use to feed our maine coon "Paco"....we also used extra heavy duty adhesive velcro strips on the bottom to adhere it to the floor in the kitchen so he couldn't kick it around after he ate his food.....

I know this is an old thread, but I recently found a new feeder that looks like it'll do the job. Unfortunately it's a Kickstarter crowdfund project and still hasn't met the minumum, but it's got over a month to go so it can potentially reach the goal. It's cheaper than some of the other units on the market and seems to have a really simple design but excellent design.

I won't directly link to it as I don't want to break any rules, but if anyone is interested, it's on Kickstarter and it's called PetPal, the cheapest unit is $350. It's a really interesting design that should last a long time, it has the ability to be automatic or interactive with us humans, it has a camera so you can see what your cats are up to. I really hope it gets funded because I'd really like to get one. Just wanted to pass this information along just in case there's any interest.
