Hey there jmoody21,
Welcome to the forums :)
You definitely have a gorgeous boy there :) From what I can see though it doesn't look like is a true MC as he doesn't have the ear tuffs and large bushy tail. He may have some MC in him, does he have tuffs of hair on his paws though?
Keep in mind he's only 6 months. He does have tuffs between his toes and the bob cat like hair coming from his ears
OOh don't get me wrong it sounds like he has Maine Coon traits but isn't a full blown MC is all. MC's have tuffs on the ears from when their young, my 2 boys that I saw at the breeders at 5 weeks old had pronounced tuffs on the ears and the 6 month MC I saw at the breeders had a fluffy bushy tail even at that age. Don't be disappointed he isn't a pure MC he looks awesome and lovely just the way he is :)a If you like I can post up the pics of the 6 month old MC I saw at the breeders so you can compare?
And I forgot to ask what his name is doh!!!
I thought I would add some picks of the 6 month old I saw at the breeders called William as he is a very fine specimen lol and it gives you something to compare to :)
He's a lovely looking cat, but I agree he doesn't have the ears for it lol. I've attached a picture of Beau (he's 5 months) showing his off so you can see what we mean! He may certainly have MC relatives though, and he's a good looking fella - looks like he's going to be big too!
Thank you guys very much for the feed back! He's a handsome fella and very well behaved!:)
A couple more pictures!
Weight & tail length are a good pointer towards him being a MC or have some in his "genes".... even part bred ones normally weigh more at this age than a normal moggy...yep as they are now the ears aren't like a MC as we know it but the strange thing is the "original" MC did have smaller ears, try & research some of the very 1st ones.....quite interesting.
Whatever he is though William is very handsome & will be great to see him grow....... he may even get "hairier" {don't think that is a proper word actually but reads good} as hegets older,my huge brown tbby has never had a rough & only now has got some tufts between his toes & in fact his coat is so short I call him my British Short Haired MC....x
My Merlin is like this ^^^, although he is starting to fluff out more, he does not have the huge ruff that Mandy does and his body is medium-haired and kind of rugged, not silky. His paw feathers are extremely long, though and his face/cheeks are very fluffy!! His tail is nearly as long as his long, muscular body too. Neither of my Coonies are pure breds but they've got enough Coon in them for me! Another trait you might watch for is their vocalizations. Both of mine chirp and trill unless they really want something or there is a problem. This is especially true of Merlin, he rarely gives a real "meow", and if he does I know there's something wrong!
I got Mandy when she was about 3 years old and her fur was still not "matured." I've found that good nutrition and lots of tuna and other fish does wonders for a raggedy or lackluster coat. Royal Canin also makes a special food for coat health called Intense Beauty.
