I've just weighed Morris, he's 1.8kgs, my kitten (socks) is 1.4kgs. Mia is hiding in the drawer under my bed so can't weigh her currently :LOL: but guess she is roughly the same weight as the kitten.
How do I get their weight up? :sad1:
I am far from an expert but they are definitely under weight by quite a lot as my 2 4 month old are 3.4 and 3.1kg! I assume you have taken them to the vets to check them out for anything that could be causing this?
You said that one of them didn't take well to the purena you gave them, have you tried other brands and also stay away from gravy wet food as that is rich. I feed my boys on raw meat which I buy from Natural Instincts and it comes frozen, I Defrost it and it then keeps for 3-4 days and my boys love it. I also use Animonda Carny at lunch as it quicker when I pop back from work, you can get this at Zooplus and it has a high meat content. Then I also have Applaws kitten biscuits down all day and there is no cereal in them which cats can't digest (obviously you would get the adult version!).
If you want to see if they might like raw food then get some raw mince from the supermarket and try that. Don't just feed them this in the long run though as it doesn't contain everything they need. Others that are far more knowledgeable than me will be along with more advice though. Good luck and I hope they put on weight soon.
Many thanks for the advice; I haven't tried any other brands of dry food yet as I they are so timid, I was focussing on settling them in. Morris hasn't been sick, Mia has only been sick once since I had them (3 weeks) but Mia is really underweight and feels quite boney - I've wormed them both and they are booked in at the vets this week. The previous owner said Mia has always been slight but I can tell that Morris has gained weight since they adopted me.
My scales are a bit rubbish in all honesty and I'll weight them all once I get them to stand still long enough!
Thanks again for your advice, I've been on to Lilly's Kitchen today and have some samples coming in the post but will look up the food you suggested.
Lambs mince? The frozen stuff you can buy in supermarkets (free-flow bags) is used by a lot of breeders when they wean kittens. Defrost a small amount and see how they go? p.s. weigh yourself then get on again holding the cat - that will give you a more accurate idea of their weights
Doh! I didn't think of that, and tbh, neither of them like being held so I had to be really quick but I've not got their weights, double checked too. I also put the scales onto KG's instead of trying to convert is (and failing lol)Quote:

I'm relieved they aren't so thin as I thought they were going to be but really keen to get them onto wet food asap. Thanks for the tip re lamb mince, I'll give anything a go at the moment.

I have weighed Ginger's carrier and then weigh it with her in it. Of course she is using a small dog carrier as she outgrew her cat one! Silly girls weighs 13# and is very healthy!

Started weighing Mickey after his eating issues the other week. He went from 2.1kg to 2.5kg in a week (April 18-25). He will be 16 weeks exactly on Wednesday so I'll weigh him again then. Wouldn't be surprised if he has packed on another couple hundred grams. He is eating well now!

Its great you are getting along with the Applaws food. I have a quick question though as I have been getting the odd tin of Applaws wet kitten food for my boys as a treat but have found that the food has changed in its look and wanted to see if you had the same thing. I have attached some pictures of what I am getting when I open a tin of Applaws and it is far different to how it used to be and the food at the bottom of the tin is a different colour!! Hi Matrix, in all honesty, I don't use that food - the kitten food seems to be more of a pate consistency, the one I use is more breast flakes, I'll take a pic of it later on when I feed them again.
Our Sidney has been through just about every "premium" cat food out there - the only one that seems to work for him is Orijen dry food - it's 80% meat and cereal free so it might be worth a try. He refuses just about everything else and weighs 5.1 kg at 2 years old. He has been growing steadily, he keeps outgrowing his walking jackets, but he is just skin, bone and attitude. As you can imagine, he is a regular at the vets and they say that he is healthy and bright and not to worry. My teenage son is exactly the same - a string bean has grown out of a chunky kiddie - so I'm hoping both will fill out as they mature.
Sid is easily 2 kg down from the average at his age, he eats well and has no dental problems or worms and his poo is normal. Apart form the odd sniffle that we hit every time it appears (still trying to determine if he is allergic to something or what???) he is well; he is very active all the time, climbing trees and hunting in the garden. He has had regular steroid shots which get him up to 6 kg, but then it just fades off again. At 6 kg he feels thin, but ok. at 5 kg he is worrying. People say "what a big cat" when we are out, then they stroke him and feel vertebrae... not great.
He has now started to supplement his diet with baby songbirds....
I would love him to gain weight and stop feeling like a furry skeleton but right now all we can do is keep feeding him (food is out 24/7) and monitoring him.
It's difficult isn't it - you can imagine how I feel with I pick Mia up :( - I weighed her yesterday and in 3 weeks she has increased in weight from 3.5kgs to 3.6 - she's tiny. My boy, Morris, has gone from 4.4kgs to 4.6 and the moggy kitten has ballooned from 3.5 to 3.9kgs.
They have access to Purina sensitive biccies all day and night, but I feed them a small can or Applaws wet shredded chicken breast twice a day (between the 3 of them) - any more than that and the MC's are sick; usually followed by bringing up fur balls. When I'm at home, I feed them 4 times a day, little and often seems to work better as the MC's scoff their food too fast and can throw it straight back up while still eating.
It's getting better though, 3 months ago, they'd never eaten any wet food at all. I just want them to be healthy and not boney :(
