Jackets are way better than harnesses - have a look on the web for Mynwood cat jackets - I can personally recommend them as we are now on our third - they are cheap but strong and very comfortable. Ava put Sid's old jacket for the first time and was not in the least bit bothered. It was interesting to see Ava on the lead - she had no idea what she was supposed to do and was all over the place, whilst Sid walked nicely to heel. It just takes practice, peace and quiet (i.e. NO DOGS!) and some serious investment in small cat treats. Sid still doesn't like traffic much, but he is very good on side streets.
Sid's first jacket was high-vis, then he had red tartan for Xmas, now he is in Arctic camouflage and Ava is wearing his cast-offs till they are both full grown, then she gets one of her own.
