Cat flap
I have brought a cat flap today. I was in the garden earlier with Simba and a noise (not sure what) frightened him and he ran to the back door to go in and found it shut. I don't like to leave it open just in case it slams shut in the wind when he is sitting in the doorway (which is quite often). Also despite being out in the garden with us most of the day - he still goes in doors to pee in his litter tray. So I thought I'd get a cat flap that has a four way lock on it. Trouble was getting one big enough cos the normal ones looked like they were already too small for him and he is only 5 months. So I eventually decided on a small dog one - not sure hubby was too pleased - he is the one that has to fit it
Despite having freedom in the back garden when we are with him for a week now - he still stays in the garden with us and today my daughter had a friend round - they were sitting on the trampoline at the bottom of the garden and Simba jumped up there to sit with them

Cat Flaps
We also have a dog sized flap & it goes from our sitting room into the cats pen outside so hubby was sweating by the time he had made a big enough hole through an outside wall but it works very well, cats can go in & out as they please or if it is really nice I lock them out for a few hours while I am at work.Great idea until one day I came home & all the cats were lounging on the chairs & sofas so I thought I had forgotten to slide the clips over to lock the flap but no they were still in place, next work day doubled checked, yep everything in place went off to work & came back to find all cats inside again but clips still in locked position, that night hubby on floor checking clips were working {we had it so the flap was on the outside wall in the pen} no problem, clips locked you could not push the flap open from pen into house so was left bewildered until the day I was at home & started hearing this scratching noise. I looked through the patio doors so I could see what was going on & one of the babes,he was about nine months then, had found he could flip the flap with a claw & lift it into the pen,he would then put his whole foot under & lift it higher until his head was under it & then chirrup to the rest of the cats & as he held it with his head they all filed past & in,when they were all in he just followed & flap shut, mission accomplished....Couldn't believe what I was seeing & I think it was a shock when they all took up their places & settled down to turn & see me standing there. We now have one with a solid flap that drops down & locks into a slot on the inside as well so even if he gets the flap up they still can't get through ,but having said that he himself has managed it once ,he had lifted flap in pen the same way & it was laying across his back he reached through & kept rattling the inside flap with his front feet until it had loosened out of its socket & could push it open just a few inches two front feet appeared followed by a nose, face, ears flattened against his head & then a body slowly working its way through a small gap then eventually a whole cat flopped on the floor, was quite an experience,it took him nearly 15 minutes & when he finally made it he looked like a flattened cartoon character that had to have a good shake & get back into shape,if only I had known how to use the camcorder it was something I would loved to have replayed, his reward was a morning spent alone with mum & the rest in the pen just looking at the flap & I reckon wondering why he hadn't let them through.......
He is too big now to try any tricks like that, it takes him all his time to wiggle through the proper way ! Haved suggested a bigger dog flap but just got a funny glare off of the other half, think it meant no.

Brilliant story JC there not as daft as they act
We used to have a small dog flap into the yard for Milo & the pensioners but along came Banjo at 8 weeks old & he followed Milo into the yard, which was great for house training him i think he only ever had 2 acidents but of course Banjo grew & the flap didnt & eventually he broke it, so we decided it was pointless just replaceing it as he would probably just do the same so now have a large dog flap which they all use.
Its funny watching Louie use it as he likes to take a run up & come crashing through we always know when he is on the way in
