Having now seen three breeders it has completely turned what i want on its head !!!! Always said would never have a tortie and absolutely fell in love with two blue and white tortie girls that one of the breeders had. Just don't know what we want anymore so guess when the time is right , after hols, will just have to go see any kittens available and let them choose us instead.......
If you fell in love than you have your answer,can't beat a naughty tortie & yes they do seem to live up to it....
Unfortunately there are too many colours to have one of each or else that would be my suggestion as they are all lovely. I fall in love every time I look at the pictures that are posted in the gallery of all our lovely babies :)
theres an idea ... win the lottery and one of each !!!
I could go with that one,will get extra lottery ticket this week.....
If you particularly like one colour though it's worth waiting for the one you want unless you intend to get more of course in the future. I knew I wanted a cream and turned down a pure white(who was particularly cute), silver tabby and another which I can't remember for the life of me what colour it was before I found Simba. I was lucky too cos originally he was already sold but then the buyer pulled out. I nearly did go for the others cos lets face it they are all gorgeous but I had set my heart on the cream and I'm glad I waited now. There are so many beautiful colours though and since being part of this forum I keep saying every time I see a picture of another MC 'Oh that's a nice colour':smile:
I had my heart set on getting a blue/cream or brown tabby.
We got to see a brown tabby and black smoke& white instead.
I was fully sure we would be heading home with abrown tabby!
I loved the brown tabby's colour but I prefered the personality of the black smoke
We went for lunch and discussed the 2 kittens.
My husband said which kitten would you be most sorry NOT to have picked and I thought the black smoke.
So although it is wonderful to get the colour you want, do have an open mind when you go to look at the kitten as the personality usually wins out :smile:
there's something to be said for limited choice isn't there... :rofl:
I wanted a black smoke, but could only have the silver tabby male, then I looked at lots of pictures and really liked the silver tabbies, so glad I got one.
But having looked at more pics I'd love to get a tortie.... one day.
I waited four years for the colour that I wanted from my breeder friend,I knew that I wanted a silver & white but mackerel tabby,she had several silver classic's in different litters but law of averages says eventually one would come along & it did..... I normally would have been there when the babes were born but that particular night I had been called back to work for an emergency so missed out,she phoned the next morning to say he had arrived,would have still brought him home if he had five legs at that point but Merlyn was well worth the time spent in anticipation.The fact that by then we had got three other MC's in the household did help a lot though !
As a breeder, it is different for me I think. I know what colour kittens I would like to produce and therefore I do have to be more specific in how I choose new girls and boys. I also have to look at the type to make sure that even though they are the colour I would like that they also have perfect breed conformation too.
I really like smokes and silvers so that does dictate how I pick and choose, although I love torties too.
I am currently holding out for a black solid girl or a tortie smoke girl so we shall see...!
Hi" Woodside" I luv smokes as well hoped that daughter was going to go for one of the black smokes last time but she fell for the black solid boy,he does look great but if he is laying on the black bed unless he opens his eyes you have no chance of telling which end is which.Are you hoping to breed new girl yourself or get her from elsewhere ?
Will be interesting to see which colour you end up with,will watch this space...
We are bringing in a black smoke boy so should get black solids or tortie smokes from him. If not I am looking at a breeder in Denmark to see what they have as they have said they are willing to import to me....it's just so tempting every time you see a nice looking one!
I admit that Roxy picked us, she came straight up to me and the way she looked at me.....well that was that! After looking at them for a while we decided on Hector as that was the kitten she was always with. That choice was a no brainer:rofl:Quote:

There you go Dave 10.5kg of my daughters black cat Ozzy Valentino,he has one speed,plod,that is until he hears the food dishes. As you can imagine when he lays on his black bed with eyes closed it is hard to spot him,will try & get picture of him one night,with the lights out of course.....!

oh he is just beautiful! Love the colour, don't think I have ever seen a solid black before - are they rare?
Lynne & her ex partner waited for our friend who breeds to get this boy so of course had to wait for the right colour marriage & then keep fingers crossed & they were lucky,we used to look around though at other breeders & hardly ever saw a solid black but since Oz has arrived we have seen more of them,isn't that what usually happens anyway !
He is a luv bug though & since staying with us I have found myself waking up with a black face right in mine & if you ignore it then he gets his paw & gently pats your cheek until you answer him.He is unpopular with our cats though because he gets into our bedroom when hubby gets up & ours are still all shut away in their room.
He also loves pink,all the girls loose their pink mice,don't know what that says about him..

yes I just checked my blog... there were 2 boys... Gryfn (silver tabby) and another black boy and 3 girls... one was smoke and the other 2 girls were blacks.
He's a beauty, I didn't realise they were rare. What is the rarest most sought after colour then (maybe one for the breeders amongst us) or is it personal choice ?
Been to see another breeder and that's it for now as everytime we leave I want to sneak at least one out with me. Wonderful time had and so informative and the cats were lovely and so very friendy, the breeder and the cats! Am coming to accept that we may well now be waiting longer for the right kittens than I originally thought , but at least then we can be 100% prepared and hopefuly get as much right as possible for our new babies.:sad1::smile:
:rofl: it's hard isn't it.... colour really wasn't an issue with me... I just didn't want a brown tabby and neither did dh...
Its worth the wait :nod: we did'nt want another brown tabby at the mo as would have felt like replaceing our old fella but will have another of any colour in the future :smile:

Weird thing is at a show he got the general publics choice & the reason was because he had such a feral looking face but was such a gentle giant,couldn't argue with that .
I didnt care when I got Sarah ( brown tabby) but with Zack I didnt want brown again so any other colour was ok.( did stipulate male which meant I missed a few litters that were all girls) I had a choice with silver tabby or blue and chose the silver.
Colour isn't now an issue , only one I don't want is black as my existing cat is black.....probably just as well as looking at other posts they seem to be rare. Also would prefer to have with white....we have found a couple of breeders we really like but they wont be having kittens til next year so hence the wait.
