Mine is hide it in a knob of butter, used to have a GSD who was epileptic and the tablets are tiny they used to fall out of food but butter worked a treat as they held them in. The upside of this was his coat was fantastic.Quote:

Thanks for all your lovely comments ! The update is that Poppy had to go back to the vets today and he kept her in to check it out further. He gave her a general anaesetic just so he could get a closer look at it. He has now changed his mind about how it happened saying it looked more like a laseration, possibly from some glass.
The bad news was that she had severed a tendon, but the good news was that he was able to repair it. She had cut one of her pads off almost completely it was just hanging on but the little mark that we could see on her leg turned out to be the worse injury.
We have to take her back on Wednesday so she has to be kept in until then - should be fun :stressed:
Poor poor Poppy, give her some more cuddles from all of us,hopefully after what she has been through today she will not be too worried about being confined for the next couple of days. Will watch for Wednesdays update,surely can't be any worse than what has happened to her today....
So sorry to hear about Poppy (poor little soul). Coming in a bit late to this thread, but we have found corned beef to be a really good way of getting pills into reluctant cats (Hobbes would sell his granny AND his beloved catnip fishy for a bit of Spam or corned beef).

Our now departed MC mix had HCM and so was taking pills several times per day for years, so we got pretty good with pill giving. Generally used a pill popper, though even they take some practice to get good at. It is probably a good idea to have one on hand. Our vet sells them. Having them between your legs is probably the best way to control them if they are resisting.
The vet people just grab them by the scruff of the neck, which naturally causes them to put their heads back and relax, and then they pop the pills in with their fingers. I was never able to get the hang of this with our boy, as his scruff was very large and tight (even the vet techs had some difficulty with him).
Never had any luck getting pills into cats using food. Quite a shock given how well food works with dogs.

As I have said before I am new to being a cat slave and after reading about the fun and games that is giving cats pills I think they are far harder to fool than a dog!
Anyway I hope Poppy is feeling a little better after her vets visit and I have to say I wouold have asked for the injectable versions and a quick lesson in how to give the jabs!!
Just a quick update. Went back to the vets tonight, he was pleased with everything, and said she was healing well. I thought the reason for the visit today was to have the stitches removed, but it was just for him to make sure it was going on ok. He wants to see her next Thursday to take out the stitches and so poor old Poppy has to stay in for another week !
Im so glad the vet's happy with her hope you cope with the nagging to get out :winkwink: if it makes you feel any better we have pills to get down Simba for the next fortnight :wacko:
