Do mcs get on well with babies? ↲I am pregnant and due in december and am a little worried how my two paws are going to react with a newborn as they are used to all the attention from us. I know there are horror stories about cats trying to sleep on babies but that does not worry me as much as the upheaval it will cause them. This baby is a surprise one as my son is sixteen and I thought my baby days were over! ↲Any advise will be greatfully received.

As for your question, sorry but I can't answer that one as mine are all grown up now, but like everything when it comes to pets and children if you are careful I'm sure it will be fine. x

Mainecoons love babies so do most cats... end of the day cats like it where its warm a babys crib is warm... but... its not normally a place you tend to find them..
The breeder of our girls has 2 very small children and coonies... and she has never had a problem.. and we have had very young babies here over night... I baby sit for friends... etc... and no problems...
I have had 4 childrens... and have had cats all their lives.... NO problems... hope that helps !!:smile:
Hello and congratulations! I can't comment specifically for MCs, but I had 2 cats when I had my son 21 years ago (where did the time go??), and people delighted in telling me horror stories about cats and babies, and asking if I was going to get rid of the cats :grr:.
I think that cats, being the curious creatures that they are, have a need to inspect everything that come into the house, so I set up the nursery, and let the cats in for a good old nose, and let them have a good inspect of the pram and any other baby paraphanalia that we brought home. When we brought my son home, I put him on the floor on his changing mat and they had a good sniff of him, and they weren't very interested after that :smile:
Remember to be careful changing the litter trays though - ideally get someone else to do it while you are pregnant, or make sure you wear gloves, and good luck :koolkat:
First of all thanks for your good wishes. When I had my son in the distant past I had a GSD and people used to ask if I was getting rid of him because of the baby I did not and they adored each other. Reece could do anything to him and even go as far as feeding him his food from his bowl by hand he fast went onto dried food! At the moment Roxy is still lying on my tum and sleeping on me, its so funny when the baby starts moving and she bobs up and down as though she is at sea, best of all she sleeps through it while we are giggling at the sight of parts of her bobbing up and down. I will follow the advise of letting them investigate all baby stuff and take it from there, I am considering a plug in for the first few days.
My baby boy is 11 months old and I never had a problem with one of my three cats, and they are even not well breed like a MC (they are domestic). My cats were very curious and did a lot of sniffing first, but they were keeping the distance, I just had to told them once. I think they know that it is a little human kitten *lol* and be careful. One of my cats was watching him all the time when he was sleeping as if she wanted to protect him. I catched one of my cats sleeping in the crib two or three times, but only when no baby was in it. If you are worried, you can buy a crib tenth though. I saw that online. It can be put over the crib at night so no cat can jump into the crib.
After all, I would watch my cat closely the first days and of course never leave it alone with the baby, just in case. You can never be 100 percent sure that nothing happens.
Today my boy is crawling after them and they try to hide from him LOL. He even tries to eat their dried cat food all the time. So they really dont want to be near him anymore LOL.
Oh one more thing. One of my cats showed a bit of jealousy, I needed to cuddle him much more for some weeks and now he adjusted to the situation very well.

When my son was born, I had a very cranky MC. I was very worried about his behavior toward the baby. When we brought the baby home, the cat sniffed him, his crib and his carseat and then left him alone until my son was about 4.
My little DSH loved to sit next to the baby from day one. She just wanted to keep an eye on him in case we humans did not know what to do.
