My little boy is only 4 months old, so still a baby and he cant stop suckling me and leaving wet patch's all over my top :rofl:
He gets himself in a trance and starts the suckling and pawing, and if i have to move him he becomes VERY insistent at carrying on and lets me know his displeasure by trying to meow, which often ends up as a Maine Coon high pitched squawk :rofl:
Do your Coonies still do this? Even as adults? Or do you find they grow out of it as they mature?
One of my last two babes done this,could be embarassing as he would try to get down your top or up from underneath,never mind who was around.I think I may have made it worse to begin with because I couldn't believe what he was doing then got the giggles so it was a job to push him off & then afterwards he got more insistant but yep he soon grew out of it,if I saw him heading with purpose I either stood up or tried to have something near by so I could distract him with play,when I knew people were coming round I made sure I wore a top that came right up & also tucked in,safer than the blushes it could cause.Even though he soon gave up you can still hear him occasionally make suckling noises mainly if he is in a deep sleep.
As a breeder I'm probably in a minority as I don't wean my kittens! They are usually eating solids by five weeks but will have a suckle too, in my experience the mums are more than happy to do this. If I keep a kitten back then it stays in its family group and will suckle until mum has had enough, whilch obviously depends on mum, not me! Fey was still having a cheeky drink until she was four and a half months old.
Most adults will paw something soft like they did their mum, as they hanker after a time of total bliss.
My brown boy used to try and suck my chin (yerch) I wasn't impressed, but he was just being affectionate.
Monty will try to suckle my neck, preferably right under my hair, and I have to catch hold of his paw or he'll knead me in the face. He did this on the first day and he's not grown out of it yet! Although he does it less often. He's very big now, and very determined, but I just stand up or plonk him firmly on my lap and hold him down. It's affectionate, but rather embarrassing...!
I've got a three year old dog that does this! She even pumps her paws to try and get milk out of my neck:LOL: Simba has never done it but he licks a lot, quite unpleasant when he does it on your face, that tongue is perfect for grooming:LOL:
Little Minnie tried to suckle with Tatja for a while. The breeder told me to discourage it as it would irritate Tatja's skin and nipples. So I distracted her with a toy every time I saw her doing it. She quickly grew out of the habit.:smile:
