Sounds like Tatja's taught you to play fetch! Wouldn't it be funny if she was nudging Minnie and El Monto and saying "here, watch this - mum loves fetching this for me!".:koolkat:

Wicca's favourite toy - especially for fetch - is this revolting little kitten that OH has named Poppy (don't ask, I have NO clue); once it was a lovely cute, soft, light beige little thing. But that was BEFORE. BEFORE Wicca. BEFORE it was repeatedly dropped in the catmilk. BEFORE it was dunked in the Vitamin drink. BEFORE it languished in a bowl of Whiskas. BEFORE it got dropped in the Litter tray (several times). It's now a crunchy, crusty, smelly, disgusting, manky thing and she will not go anywhere without it. And now I know throwing it away won't work as she'll just dive in the bin to retrieve it!! Santa's bought her a new one though - a clean one that doesn't smell bad, or crunch when you step on it. :winkwink:
Don't you believe it, santa bringing Wicca a nice new toy will not work for the fetch game, for Welly it has to be a long time favourite & well used. When his bestest purple fetch mouse gave up the ghost due to the same treatment that Wicca gives hers he went into depression & wouldn't fetch anymore until these last two came on the scene, also having been dropped into everything nasty & washed well, just seems to give them a bit more travel & spin ability when they have ingrained dirt in them & I suppose the taste when they retrieve could be more like that of something they caught in the wild so is more acceptable to them to carry in their mouth,my theory on it anyway.
Dreading when these two meeces meet their doom so trying to keep an eye on some of the others for just the right state of decomposure to squirrel it away & bring into play just at the right moment, would hate to see my Welly sitting hunched & grieving again.....
That's brilliant Jackie, the lengths we will go to to keep the gang happy! I like your theory btw, it's easy to forget that 'clean' to us is really not very interesting to the cats.
Larry doesn't play fetch with any of his actual toys, but I notice he is quite picky about his dishcloth, much preferring a nice grey cloth which has seen a few days' use, over a nice clean cloth out of the washing machine.
It had gone through my mind that this might happen but I think I was/am in denial!! Poppy won't be binned until Poppy2 has been accepted as a member of the family! Freyja's a bit less fussy - her favourite toy is a soft ball with a feather boa attached, and of course, this ended up in the food and milk bowls regularly, When the boa was starting to look more like a plucked turkey than a toy, I swapped it with another one and expected Freyja to reject it, but she didn't seem to notice, and it didn't take long before it also wound up in a disgusting state!
I'm coming to kittnap little Wicca - I've always wanted a Coonie who played fetch. The most Gracie can manage is a disdainful "do you honestly expect me to run after that piece of scrunched up paper mum?" and Monty has thus far only perfected the art of "pick up in mouth and run away to put it in hiding place"!
Here's a clip of Larry retrieving the dishcloth:
