Thread: The Litter kwitter!!!

You know what, I was discussing this with my hubby about a month ago. I think it's a good idea IF your cat is willing to do it.

While I have an open mind about this, my husband is a bit cynical. His argument was that he's too scared that the cat would fall in the toilet and obviously injure himself/herself and also the stress that it may cause.

Would be interesting to hear what other people think about this, and whether anyone has actually attempted this on their Maine Coons.

Ria: I have been considering it...the real reason is it would free up more space for us, as living in an apartment, we are more restricted for space. I would be very concerned though about stressing a cat out and am still happy for him to use his litter tray if he is is happier and more relaxed to do so!

I really don't see my cats using the toilet. If anybody comes and tells me that it really works in reallife I'm willing to try.
If you have a small appartment you could consider buying a small cupboard, table or wooden hallcupboard (large enough for the littertray), make a hole in it and place the littertray inside.

We are using the litter kwitter for our two mc's Jasper & Bailey (Soon to be 6 months old on Wednesday) we are still on the red stage, which has now been four weeks but in their defence they very quickly got the hang of it so we moved them onto the amber stage and had our first accident as they would only use it under supervision. So we went back to red and have been waiting for our week off which is a week tomorrow so that we can give them the time they need to get the hang of it. Getting them to use the red stage up on the toilet was purely down to them, they knew exactly what to do. We've just started having some more problems with accidents from only Jasper, he can go days with out a problem and then.....oops. I have read elsewhere that this can be a problem with dominanance and often goes away once they have been neutered which is being done a week tomorrow so we'll see.
It's not been much fun using the litter kwitter because it has to be kept completely clean all the time and MC's drink and drink and drink!! but you've got to keep your eye on the prize, once it's done we've got 10-20 years litter free! For £30 I would strongly recommend it. Bought ours in Pets at Home.

I'm also training my 16 week old coonie on the L.K. He has taken to the red stage like a duck to water and loves to sit up on the loo even when he ain't doing any business

Last Friday after 9 days on the red stage I thought he was ready for the challenge of amber, but even though he continuously checked it out during the day by jumping up on it, he ended up peeing on the floor of the hall. Little imp!!!!! so I have decided to go back to red for another while and will remove the litter from the central part of the red disc instead. See how he responds to that!

Hopefully there won't be too many accidents to deal with but if I can end up with a litter tray free household, it will certainly be worth all the accidents

Questions which beg to be asked... How on earth do you 'show' them what to do?
Also, what does amber / red etc mean and why do you need to move them from one stage onto the next? Surely when they are pooping / peeing on the toilet, thats job done?
